So I don’t think these folks are virtue signaling or trying to look good but I do think the end result will still never feel satisfactory or get justice for the wronged. South Korea top director Bong Joon Ho of Parasite and many more award winning movie fame held a press conference accompanied by other industry veterans in the acting, directing, and producing fields to publicly demand a formal investigation into the police and media mishandling of Lee Seon Kyun‘s case. They allege the police and media either intentionally or incompetently mishandled the deceased Lee Seon Kyun’s drug use and blackmail allegations which then became public fodder for outrage and castigation of him. It undoubtedly led to the events including firing from movies and loss of CF campaigns all of which involve steep financial penalties. These industry veterans have formed an organization called Association of Solidarity of Cultural Artists and will use this organization going forward to protect the rights of public figures.
If this is a way to protect the industry and fight for justice against people behind keyboards, the media, etc…I approve.

It’s going to be a hard fight unless they have more power than the figures behind the fueling of the rumours.
I support this 100%. After losing so many artists and actors to suicide, enough is enough. Something needs to change. It doesn’t have to be this way, and so I hope this is a constructive way to create change in the industry.
I hope things will change. At least some people are trying to do something. I’m still pondering if I should watch much praised My Mister. I missed all the Kdrama including this one too during a hiatus. It doesn’t feel good knowing something horrendous happened to the deceased ML.
The man was a serial cheater who got his affairs found out. And he decided to off himself instead of doing the responsible thing to and for his family. I would feel more sympathy if he didn’t do anything wrong. I think this is just the old boys club closing ranks and trying to protect some of its questionable members from being found out.
The world would be a better place if people would focus on their own lives instead of passing judgment on complete strangers.
What about the blackmailers? They shouldn’t be charged because he was already a cheater?? Sure, he cheated, wrong to his fam, but doesn’t cheating happen everyday to ordinary people who we all probably know one or two? Still not a crime in most countries either. Only difference here is, he’s a public figure people can force judgment on without getting in trouble. You can’t deny how the media treated him wasn’t right. Step into his shoes, bet you’d have the same reaction he did. Sometimes people forget, they don’t walk in other people’s shoes. Judging by your comment i can say that you don’t even know a clear info about his case. It wasn’t just a “cheating” but blackmail including drugs case, 3 months hate and a lot of pressure from police and media, plus interrogation for 19 hours without any proof.

The entertainment industry mixed with brothels, drugs will bring out the worst in people. There’s no way he didn’t know greedy people with no moral compass would target him. Police, medias,…covered this case as he was THE criminal . Ok, theu guy used drugs, perhaps was a cheater . So what ? Nobody is perfect , what he did was wrong but it was his private life . What about corrupt politicians who used our money, bullies who destroyed the life of our children, women who are sexually assaulted every day ???
His case was handled very badly… I hope there will be huge changes to how cases that are still under going investigation be dealt with. there should be absolutely no leakage nor should there be huge media present when the accused are going to Police stations.This will just encourage witch hunting.

I do agree that the police investigation was a big mess, the police shouldn’t release all the details to the public like that, police need to make sure the drug related accusations are valid. But it’s so unpleasant to see that suddenly LSK is painted as ‘innocent’ here, the real victims are his family who is suffering tremendously. I can’t believe some people are justifying the cheating or whatever it is, him knowing the madame was already questionable. I’m not sure where and why you think he is painted as innocent. I don’t like misogyny, but even those who are dont deserve to a death sentence just because of it. It’s a skewed point of view, which may or not lead to actual criminal behaviors. It is morally wrong, but cheating (you may look at your own criminal code of your country) is not a criminal act but an act that is wrong based on the civil law (which allows the other party to get a divorce and perhaps an alimony). Using drugs is a sign of help. Selling, isn’t and should be criminally punished.
To summarize, I don’t think anyone here says the act of cheating is not wrong. Second, what people found shocking is how he was treated during the investigation of whatever that they investigated him. Third, he is a famous actor that brought so much fame to what used to be his country. Just as easy as they could cancel them, viewers in other countries which loved him for his ability to bring joy to the screen can also cancel the whole nation based on how they treated their fellow countrymen, and the actor they came to love, too (which case I hope it doesn’t happen).
Being righteous is important; but being kind and reasonable is critical. I can’t say for anyone else, but my time investment in K media dropped significantly (now turned to American and other country dramas). It’s gobsmacking to see how people in his home country treated him after what they he have done for them on a global scale.

I’m married and I won’t call cheating as a mistake, it’s a sin! And sorry to say, LSK was not the only one in Parasite who is known globally, other actors too talents come and go..Unfortunately foreigners don’t have much to say in this matter even if they feel themselves important because for them, their honour in their home country is more important. I feel that this is so unfair for her. Presumably that his death was his own extreme choice and no foul play involved, can’t you see the biggest victims in all of these are his wife and his sons? Those influential men who stand on the podium demanded for whatever it is, I hope they have the same energy to protect Jeon Hyejin too, please. THIS! The police investigation was handled poorly. And that’s something the country needs to get together to change. As for the media, it is their job to report news. How kind their words were, I wouldn’t know. You bet they’ll focus more on the celebrity over the commoner. In the end, LSK made his own choice to take his own life. He is accountable for his own choices and actions. So many irrational commenters here lashing out. It’s sad.

To say LSK is painted innocent by many commenters here is stretching a point. Whether he’s guilty of any accused crimes or committed affairs, that’s his private life and privacy. There should be boundary when we judge public figures. Do we criticize his/her professional works and ethics or do we accuse him of something harmful he might have done in his private life that is still under investigation? The latter should belong to his privacy and there are laws protecting in the West to protect that privacy while jury is still out; nobody should cross this boundary. But a lot of us don’t see that kind of privacy is respected by the SK police, media, and netizen mobs. Therefore, we don’t think this kind of cultural practice is humane nor civilized. Don’t get confused!
I guess some are just unreasonable- meaning unable to reason with, so we should let them be. I’m sure they are as pure as gold, became successful so much that they have time to hate public figures. Their contribution to the society is so great that it brings about positive changes to the world. They do volunteer as well- police public figures around even without being paid.
