Filming Kicks Off for Period C-drama Noble Lady with Chen Du Ling and Xin Yun Lai

Well this is certainly a different lead casting than the usual circuit of names and I’m going to keep my mind open especially with the female lead. Production has kicked off for the period C-drama Noble Lady (Gui Nu) starring Chen Du Ling and Xin Yun Lai. She’s leveling up after multiple guest starring and second female lead roles and he’s getting a promotion more due to current male leads not wanting to take a second billing to her. I don’t mind, I’m enjoying his character and performance a lot in Legend of Shen Li and I don’t find her a bad actress per se just so far rather mid and had a beautiful serene image all the time. If she breaks out of her usual vibe and paired with him who is still an relative unknown in terms of stepping up to a big role, this could have a shot at being a solid drama.

  1. Did the novel’s fans not “beach” about this casting? How surprising. They were quite vocal with their dissatisfaction with the rumoured cast of the other novels by the same author. These 2 are not good looking enough to play the FL and ML. Wonder why they didn’t cast better looking and popular actress and actor for this. Guess the budget is too low. How unfortunate. Is this even an A rated drama?

  2. Yea he is quite striking in Legend of Shen Li and looks a bit like Korea’s Woo Do Hwan. With Chen Du Ling, she had her fair share of supporting and guest starring roles, some even really beneath her level I feel. So respect for her humbleness to accept these roles for whatever reasons than jumping right away to FL roles. Hope she had some good training to propel her now to the big stage. Good luck to both and will be watching out for this.

    • She was at Hengdian during lockdown and participated in (pulling a number from my hazy memory) 10 dramas or so as side character. A case of ‘let’s do what we can while we can’t get out or get people in’ from both Chen Du Ling and the various crew. I think this helps her visibility. Someone said she already had FL position in the past, then ‘downgraded’ to 2nd/3rd FL (nothing wrong being in a supporting role imho). Maybe now it’s time for her to try FL role again.

  3. Chen Duling always looks like she’s about to cry in all her roles lol. I hope the title “Noble Lady” means that she’s gonna have a stronger role for once.

  4. Although Chinese produce so much and who knows if the hit dramas can make up for the one shelved and Flops, but it definitely gave actors the abilities to make up for that few projects that did not do well. They are bound to have better chances at another project that will be hit or w/ better reception and hence, they still have the chances to grow and continue in their industry. Korean; however, is harder. They stick to either super stars or those w/ good records for leads and leave lesser chances for 2nd leads to elevate to leading. So good for her.

  5. Both are ugly. Who would risk hurting their eyes watching this? Is this the level of China’s celebs for lead roles? Can’t compare to S Korea and Japan at all.

    • Lol. Xiao Zhan alone destroys the “beauty” of the proclaimed good-looking South Korean or Japanese actors. You always say the same thing because you’re insecure about what you’re proclaiming, and it’s funny.

  6. In my opinion, Chen Du Ling is also very stiff as an actress. But what i like about her is that she is aware of her limitations and is actively trying to improve with classes and taking supporting roles. Her head is in the right place, that’s a good start. I hope she’s improved enough to be lead again!

  7. Well I thk they both look ok visually, not bad. CDL comes off as bit wooden from last Ive seen of her. On Hi6 reality show she didnt really show her personality either. Hopefully acting wise she has improved.

  8. Why does a lot of people hate cdl? I thought she looked good and in most scene of her as cameo, she is really good at acting, especially in those sad scenes
