Production of the C-drama Adaptation of The Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage Now Courting Dylan Wang and Meng Zi Yi as Leads — 25 Comments

  1. This drama has so many casting rumors that it feels like no established actors and actresses want to touch it, while the production team is desperately trying to pull in investments to kickstart the project.

  2. The rumors about this adaptation have been around forever, but somehow, the author’s other novels already got their drama versions. The Double was even pretty successful. Yet this one, which is honestly the most popular among both international fans and Chinese readers, still hasn’t been touched.

I keep wondering who would actually dare to take the lead roles if it ever gets adapted. With how popular this novel is, there’s really no in-between. They’ll either get tons of love or face crazy amounts of criticism. I had this feeling that this is the kind of drama that could make or break someone’s career.

    • Meng Ziyi isn’t, and neither is Zhou Ye. She doesn’t get enough criticism for her acting, but her fans don’t want to understand. Let’s not her ruin another novel. Just because you have bad taste doesn’t mean everyone does.

    • That’s a good suggestion! Song Zu Er can act innocent while doing vicious stuff to her enemies. Good idea! Dylan is a perfect fit.

      • Song Zu’er is the perfect choice (anyone can just look at her currently filming Ming drama). But he isn’t. Firstly, that will mean making the drama male-centric. They need a ML who is less popular than the FL. Secondly, he just can’t pull off XJX’s playful but dangerous aura. He only fits the cold and expressionless types of roles. And thirdly, he just doesn’t have the face for it. He is handsome, but that’s an iphone pace and very mature, without any delicacy. XJX isn’t even 20 for half of the novel.

  3. If they make this male-centric, I swear I will not watch it. This is Shen Miao’s story and it’s her revenge story. If they rewrite (adapt, bah) and mess it up with adding plot to givethe male lead a bigger role….heads are gonna roll and people are gonna get Cdrama slapped.

  4. I’m rooting for hou ming hao or Zhang ling he for xjx ,playful but at the same time regal..for the f I think the Zhao lu si ,Bai lu,and wang chu ran ,as they both can play teen roles then old roles

  5. Pls I can’t watch meng ziyi. I feel like everytime she is acting it’s not the character I am watching but MZY acting.

    • i can’t watch her too, it’s all the same MZY ( copy- paste) from drama to drama, she has no temperament as an actress.

      • I don’t think that’s due to makeup, but more so lip injections lol. It is so unnatural and distracting onscreen, esp for period dramas.

  6. I feel like someone Wang Pen or Dai Lu Wa would be perfect for the FL role. And I don’t want Dylan as the lead because I feel like they’d make it a male-centric drama.

  7. ML should be Wang Xingyue. He made it work once, why not make it work again the 2nd time? Plus he can do playful, but has the steely coldness to be convincing as a ruthless prince.

FL as Dai LuWa would be great, i agree. Two of the best matches. But she doesnt have the noble beauty look, although makeup would her more convincing. There should be more options

  8. Dai Luwa would be PERFECT for the role of Shen Miao! She’s the complete package; she’s beautiful AND can act. She’s a chameleon and can adapt to any role, as evidenced by the wide range of characters she has portrayed. She also looks much younger than her age, so we can avoid the awkward situation of older actresses looking ridiculous trying to portray a much younger character. With the correct makeup and hairstyle, she can transition smoothly from the mature, deeply heartbroken, and betrayed Empress Shen to the youthful, elegant, calculative younger version of Shen Miao.

As for the male lead, I am not sure. I agree with the comments here; the actor casted as Xie Jingxing cannot be too popular, or else, it will turn into a male centric drama. However, the actor has to be someone who can appear deceptively playful and easygoing but with a hidden steely, ruthless aura. Xie Jingxing is probably one of the most beloved leading male characters in a novel. It will be hard to find a good fit for him.
