K-movie Adaptation of Hit Webtoon Solo Leveling Confirms Four Main Leads as Byun Woo Seok, Han So Hee, Kang You Seok, and Kang Mina
So it’s probably going to be a wash when currently airing K-drama Perfect Crown wraps in terms of how it affects the career of leads IU and Byun Woo Seok. The drama isn’t a flop and is doing okay in ratings and buzz but it’s not the hit that the big budget, promos, and popularity of the leads should have delivered. This means Byun Woo Seok’s next big project the K-movie adaptation of Solo Leveling, a super popular survival fantasy webtoon, will continue to have heightened scrutiny over whether his big break in Lovely Runner can deliver the results the industry wants to see. Honestly he can’t do things by himself and for Solo Leveling this week came news of the full main leads casting to join him and already confirmed female lead Han So Hee. The second leads will be Kang You Seok and Kang Mina, so I guess Mina skipping the big I.O.I .ten year reunion for scheduling reasons is because she’s off filming this. This cast is fine and I’ll reserve any substantive impressions until I see the first trailer.

He can’t act. I was on the fence before Perfect crown but his character there is not a difficult one and he still sucked. I am despondent that he got Solo because I can just see a blank face throughout as his “acting”.
Solo Leveling doesn’t need skills though.
I hope this one does well, especially since Kang Mina is missing the IOI reunion for this. I feel like live-action adaptations of popular action fantasy webtoons and animated shows have more of a chance disappointing than impressing. On the big screen with a 90-120 minute runtime, they may go with more flashy visuals than telling a good story that matches the feel of the original.
It’s a movie? I thought it was a series for some reason. IDK how they can cram all those climax scenes into a short film.
