Audience Criticism of C-drama Overdo with Zhang Ling He and Wang Chu Ran Leads to Hilarious Commentary and Side Effects
It just three short days since the premiere of Republic era period revenge and romance C-drama Overdo with Zhang Ling He and Wang Chu Ran it’s definitely doing gangbusters online. But most of that is criticism and side effects of the mockery of how poorly made this drama is. First off it’s led to a surge in popularity for an old C-drama Too Late to Say I Love You which aired in 2010 and starred Wallace Chung in a Republic era warlord role in a similar hate to love you and revenge plot. Audiences are saying a 16 year old drama is better made than Overdo, and Wallace looks way hotter as a general with Zhang Ling He getting a new moniker as “Lipstick Warlord” in Overdo a play on his nickname “Foundation General” in Pursuit of Jade. Netizens are also pointing out that Zhang Ling He has in two consecutive dramas actually made his senior elder actors popular again, first in PoJ gave Peter Ho a career resurgence and now in Overdo boosting Wallace’s super old drama. The dialogue for Overdo is also getting shredded for being just awkwardly written and the dubbing for characters sometimes don’t line up either. The terrible AI generated opening sequence has been removed starting in episode 8 with an opening sequence of actual scenes with the leads and the production actually released a statement apologizing for the AI one. But unfortunately the latest episode had an airplane scene with the two leads that was soooooooo poorly CGI that dramas made decades ago could have done it better lol. All in all, this has turned into a fun watch for the wrong reasons, what we call “sat with popcorn to see what else could go wrong“.
I don’t know who ZLH make-up artist is but they need to pick a different shade of lipstick. He wears the same SUPER red shade in all his dramas and honestly, it is distracting.
It’s getting comparisons because ZLH’s character is playing Wallace Chung’s character’s son. The drama is based off the sister novel of Too Late to Say I Love You, both novels originally written by 匪我思存 Fei Wo Si Cun.
Wait so this means the main couple in Too Late to say I Love You didn’t end up together?
Lipstick warlord? lol Somehow I feel people are still stuck on his last too much make up situation. But I feel this way for every actor now. They really do put too much lipstick or gloss on their male actors. I guess they feel it makes them more alluring and noticed. Like we probably just won’t see their lips without it. I don’t know 🤷🏻♀️
I hate actor with chapped lip so it’s nice if they put lipstick on. But not that shade of red lol

Lipstick warlord 🤣 yes! The dubbing doesnt match up n ive veen laughing at the airplane thing for a few mins now. Ive dropped it at ep 6 cos the plot is terrible. But I will read reviews to see where this train wreck goes lol

Now the actors fans are saving this drama even if they themselves have lots of disappointments.
There really no acting delivery from both ZLH and WCR,the dialogue lipmovement and dubbing don’t match,So they are only rambling about number of viewers rating in their own forged yunhe data,and guys if anyone remember the recent drama PURSUIT OF JADE was the same the yunhe data was such a big scandal, without even watching people had it in already watched list which created massive backlash.
Btw that dive by zlh was hilarious, and the slap reaction of zhl was creepy, that candle in surgery ward scene was such a cringe. As for wcr, she is just there with her frozen staring expressions, i guess she will be next MZY, only visual no acting. I thought she would be good but she is always acting as herself rather than the character so it’s always the same in her every drama.
In this drama overdo, zlh is playing himself so is WCR also.The drama name is making sense now as the makeup,filter, acting, directing, Ai, all are overdone. It’s almost33 episodes drama, i wonder how many cringe scene will be there in the upcoming episodes.
Haha, the old Wallace Chung drama is from a time when men still looked manly and their skin tone resembled that of an actual person.
Nowadays, the thin idol boys with their bleached faces and way too much lipstick/eyeliner are just ridiculous and nobody can take them seriously as weathered generals or warlords.
If C-ent wants to get out of the current slump, instead of just chasing traffic and data, it needs to return to its roots, concentrate on telling a story and cast actors that look the part and have sufficient acting skills (including saying their lines properly).
But ZLH’s role in this isn’t even a warlord?????
Looks like they’re filming this with a mini-series or vertical drama budget. Thought ZLH’s character was a doctor and just the bio-son of a warlord. Just a bossy civilian?

LOL! Everyone is roasting ZLH! Don’t forget Wang Chu Ran, she is totally overrated right now. She has never been a good actress and so evident in this drama.
Even if this fails their fans will ramble and blame the director and productions for everything rather than accepting the fact that their bias also can’t act for shit. Wcr and zlh needs good costar to shine cause they can’t act by themselves to shine.As their fan says they are there for visual only.
Neither one of them is good. But she has way fewer fans and his fans have been attacking her since the first episode, how it is her fault, bringing the show down when he is a “brilliant” actor.

I prefer watching kdramas, cos i find chinese actors act very cringey and stif.. until i watched poj, and i was amazed that he acted so naturally, he managed to change my whole impression of chinese actors. I think he is 1 of the good looking actors who can actually act..

Exactly…toxic in the extreme. While Overdo may not be a record-shattering historical, it remains a Top-Tier 2026 commercial performer, with a 16.4% premiere to 17.7% for following eps. ZLH’s acting is progressing nicely, and he slays as #Murongqingyi “suum cuique”, to each their own.
Exactly. I’m not even a fan of these people, nor am I a C-Drama fan, but Overdo does kind of piqued my interest.
Why? Because this drama is the kind of drama I used to watch as a child.
Editing in Overdo is terrible, but acting by the main cast isn’t. It’s passable at very least.
Like it or not, ZLH is still the talk of the C-drama town even after my vacation. He’s creating way more buzz, both positive and negative, than any other actor right now. It’s been pretty amusing catching up on all his news! lol
