Hu Ge and Liu Shi Shi, both belonging to the same agency/production company Tangren, are fast approaching legendary status for one hilarious quirk – they have starred in 9 dramas together and have never been the OTP. They have been siblings, in-laws, fiancees who don’t end up getting married, first loves that don’t end up together, anything and everything except … Continue reading →
It must be hard being Yoon Eun Hye, so popular as an entertainer that her every move garners comment and conjecture. I love her as an actress but it’s hard to discuss her craft without fans and antis mucking up the discussion with personal swords and shields. Missing You was her first foray into traditional K-melodrama and its low-teens ratings … Continue reading →
The second half of 2012 saw two onscreen pairings that really piqued my interest and upped my anticipation of great chemistry to come. First came Moon Chae Won and Song Joong Ki in Nice Guy (The Innocent Man), then came Moon Geun Young and Park Shi Hoo in Cheongdamdong Alice. All four are actors I love to varying degrees, and … Continue reading →
Next time I fall in love with a C-novel and decide to translate it, I really ought to pay closer attention to page length. My Yun Zhong Ge project clearly got away from me. Even if the pen is mightier than the sword, my will was not mightier than my ability. I do want to finish the remaining two chapters … Continue reading →
O.M.G. Seriously? SERIOUSLY? I am supposed to wait 6 more days until I get to inject episode 11 of Flower Boy Next Door directly into my veins? I will feel like death before then, because this episode was DA SUPREME BOMB. So much awesome I felt infused with the drama holy spirit and the urge to fling off my clothes … Continue reading →
Wahhhh, my baby Lee Seung Gi is back! And baby looks adorable! Aish, I’m going to be even more of a goner once he dons sageuk garb and unleashes his half man-half beast side in the upcoming fantasy period drama Gu Family Book (or The Book of the House of Gu). The drama is scheduled to premiere in early April … Continue reading →
This isn’t just a potential train wreck, the pre-filming histrionics is approaching flaming wreckage strewn everywhere levels of destruction for the upcoming Bu Bu Jing Xin 2. Somewhere Yu Zheng must be cackling like a madman, likely getting kicks out of watching his rival Tangren‘s ladyboss Karen Tsai literally turn into a vengeful beyotch and melting down in public. January … Continue reading →
Another Monday, another lovely episode of Flower Boy Next Door. While the second half of this drama doesn’t suddenly change the tone of the story from humorous and introspective to angst-filled and romance-driven, it does start to increase the stakes for the leads to the point where things are clear if remain unsaid. I’m banking money on Enrique and Dok … Continue reading →
I am officially pre-shipping the heroine Linghu Chong with the villain Dong Fang Bu Bai in the upcoming wuxia C-drama The Swordsman. This is my conclusion after watching the 9-minute long trailer just released (linked below) and finally wrapping my mind around the changes producer Yu Zheng did to the original novel The Smiling Proud Wanderer by Louis Cha. It’s ridiculous, … Continue reading →
I felt a cold arctic breeze waft by recently and it was a combination of an evil malware attack on the Playground and watching the long 9-minute trailer for That Winter, The Wind Blows. Man, this thing better not blow but I have no clue how the story will come together. I had similar reservations with Nice Guy (The Innocent … Continue reading →
The casting has been completed for The City of Devastating Love, the drama adaptation of Tang Qi Gong Zi‘s period fantasy romance novel Hua Xu Yin (The Lure of the Hua Xu Tune), and I’ll use this as another reminder not to believe in early reports. Initially the word was Kevin Cheng, Jiang Xin, and Yuan Hong were the three leads … Continue reading →
Monday premieres the new underdog workplace industry K-drama Advertising Genius Lee Tae Baek on KBS, a drama I admittedly only got interested in when the second leads Jo Hyun Jae and Han Chae Young got on board. Hey, not every project gets the juices flowing right off the bat. I actually like Jin Goo, he’s a fantastic movie actor and … Continue reading →
There was a new song introduced in Flower Boy Next Door that was a stark contrast to the peppy uptempo first few songs off the OST. This one is an angsty ballad and it played over the ending sequence for episode 9, which perfectly captures how this drama went from mellow contemplation to cranking up the intensity in a few … Continue reading →
