Geun-Geun Sageuk Mashup Fanfiction: When Lee Chang Hwe Met Shin Yoon Bok
I’m too lazy to translate the world of fanfiction about the Geun-Geun Couple or stories continuing where Mary Stayed Out All Night left off. But when I came across this brilliant and ROFL picture story book, it begged me to take the time to share it. Bringing you a what-if scenario of: Mae Ri runs over Mu Gyul, sending him back in time where he wakes up as Chang Hwe, who runs into Eun Bok, sees that she looks just like his Mae Ri, and hurries off to marry the little cross-dressing lady.
This picture story uses screencaps from Jang Geun Seok‘s Hong Gil Dong, and Moon Geun Young‘s Painter of the Wind. There are also some wickedly meta cameos in this story, which I won’t reveal and spoil the surprise. Just a refresher: in HGD, Jang Geun Seok plays Chang Hwe, an exiled prince who is back to reclaim his rightful throne, and in PotW, Moon Geun Young plays a genuis painter who must cross-dress as a boy to join the Royal Art Institute and paint for the royal family.
I’m going to watch Mu Gyul’s performance today, so happy!

First half of the drama will be in modern times where romantic stuff can happen, then the middle episodes of the drama will be in saeguk setting where they can wear beautiful and handsome costumes, and the last few episodes will bring them back into the modern times to resume more romantic awesomeness! 😉

i agree totally with wanting the Geun-Geun couple in a sageuk asap but…i would rather they keep to being subtle, refined and dignified by NOT portraying a bed scene but subtly IMPLYING it…as was done in Marry Me, Mary… (”,)
somehow i am for the “less is more” concept and maybe because i am from the older generation, i see subtlety, refinement and elegance in portraying emotions and actions as more profound than “in-the-face” style that is favoured nowadays…or in other words, the style that seems to favour the “sex sells” concept…
i appreciate the need to portray the stories in dramas and films as close to reality as possible but i believe there is not just one way of achieving that…
and i personally appreciate the writers and directors more if they are able to achieve that with just the right amount of skinship…
not too much, such that nothing is left to the imagination…
or too little, such that viewers are left frustrated…
it is a delicate balance, requiring masterful and artful handling, for an execution that should result in a cathartic experience, for the actors and viewers alike… (”,)
