I’m happy Heirs/The Inheritors is ending this week and what feels like the grand experiment is finally over. I can get the disappointment that this drama couldn’t do more with so much material to work with, and if all the staring could be reduced by 90% then a good two episodes worth of time could be freed up to actually develop the relationship between Hyun Joo-Won or even the blink-and-miss-it first love connection between Esther-Secretary Yoon. This was a popular drama domestically and internationally so plenty of people enjoyed it, myself including, for whatever snippets floated your boat. I liked the school stuff, aside from Young Do’s intense bullying in the beginning, and wished there was more studying and test-taking and maybe some social club activities to let the kids interact in their own school yard ways. The preview is out for episode 19 and there is some return to Tan and Eun Sang in school, except at so late in the game and with so much at stake with Chairman Daddy’s giant hammer of doom looking over them, it feels rather like pressing pause before getting back to the final denouement. At least Eun Sang’s mom and KI Ae are interacting again, for whatever reason their relationship was really entertaining and felt real, like Ki Ae did make a friend in that lifeless and love-deprived hellhole she was living in.
This drama has done a good job of showing us that money really doesn’t buy happiness, at most it buys security and not starving to death and less toiling. It hasn’t done as good of a job showing us how the poor suffer since Eun Sang worked some part time jobs before getting sucked into the vortex the world of the uber-rich. In the end it’s still a Cinderella story even if Prince Charming might actually die without his Cinderella, which for some is probably a sign of how much he loves her while others will roll their eyes at how his entire life revolves around her rather than something within himself. I’m not necessarily upset at Tan’s lack of purpose outside of Eun Sang, or even her lack of agency and impetus outside of people giving her options (let’s not kid ourselves that she would have gone back to Tan without knowing Won gave her tacit consent and ergo he’s got her back). I feel like some characters have been developed in this drama and that’s good enough, such as Young Do and hopefully Rachel finishes the drama by returning to her smart and haughty ways and forgets she ever turned stupid and vindictive for Tan. I can’t believe I’m sailing into the final two episodes of Heirs with complete calmness at whatever Kim Eun Sook throws at me for the ending, and even the realization that the OTP is probably the least interesting part of this drama and yet I still enjoyed it. Weird but true, just like how this entire project felt to me from start to now finish.

Ohh Young Do is going bankrupt? Noooo 🙁
I hope kt helps him and they grow from being the school idiots for major bussiness partner s
Aww…I’m gonna miss Heirs….it was not a great drama, with its flaw in its writing which could not do justice to its cast and characters but I still liked it like crazy and it has to do a lot with my instant love for the OTP and as the drama progressed..I started liking so many other characters as well..
Me 2!….
The finale this week better make up for what was lost in last week’s episodes!
Heirs will forever be one of those dramas that i watched week-to-week without much thought. Usually those are the dramas I drop asap, cause why else would you watch k-dramas if your emotions are stoic throughout?
What an odd phenomenon for me heirs is then. I won’t miss it, but i wish the best for the cast that have worked hard through the cold weather.
Same for me too. The drama didn’t manage to grab me somehow. I was expecting much more for the most anticipated/talked drama…
At some point I did drop it and was satisfied reading the recaps and it was enough for me.
THank goodness I have not started watching this drama!…LOL…Otherwise, I would been questioning myself and why I am watching it…I’ve been reading recaps here and there, but still have not have the courage to watch it. I tried A Gentleman’s Dignity, but that wasn’t really my taste so I couldn’t really finished it.
I felt like heirs was more of an interesting read to me through your recaps then me actually making the effort to watch them online. Initially, I hated the first 3 eps cause the production kind of made Americans look like abusive asses, especially since I am a born and raised Angeleno myself. The story got a lot better and I was excited. After ep 10, I started feeling like this drama became more of an obligation for me. I am looking forward to the ending, but don’t really care how it comes to an end. Sorry to the cast and production team of heirs. You just lost me at the end, but I enjoye the ride.
I liked watching Heirs, I threw all reason out the window by
episode 2 and I just rolled with it. Also I like looking at
the guys. I am just shallow that way. Not really sad it has
ended but I would like a better and action packed series/movie
for Lee Min Ho in the future.
The only reason I started watching the drama was for the male actors (yes I know it’s shallow but I can’t resist the eye candy!) but eventually stayed for not only the male actors but also the special relationship between Eun Sang and Tan’s mom. Heirs is just one of those dramas I watched not because there’s anything to take from the drama but just for the pure fun and curiosity.
I can’t wait for You Who Came From Another Star! It’s about time that drama airs! (:
GOD I wish ES would just be like “MY NAME IS CHA EUN SANG F*CKERS!” instead of looking all timid and scared out of her wits while ‘introducing’ herself to the chairman. Sorry for the language – it’s an expression of just how annoyed this drama made me. I’m a lot more fond of YD than you, Koala, so I didn’t enjoy the OTP. I’m watching solely to find out what happened, although I’m not that personally invested in that either.
So Eun Sang is not a born heiress afterall?
I’m going to miss this drama so much when it’s done. I’m one of the few people who actually loved the plot and the progression of the story. I’m also one of the few hoping we get at least a 2 episode extension, I know that’s a really unpopular idea but there it is. I love this show warts and all. Ironically, what I loved the most was the OTP and their interactions. So swoon-worthy.
NO matter what they say… This drama makes my Wednesday and Thursday enjoyable after a long working day. I just put myself into their shoes on what I can do if I am still eighteen and In love… KT and ES is my OTP of the year (my opinion) only…
Amen. I loved this OTP more than any other from SBS’ dramas this year. I didn’t care for the Master’s Sun OTP, I felt no chemistry between them and I had second lead syndrome in I Hear Your Voice, so there was that. Hope Kim Soo-hyun and Jeon Ji-hyun up the ante. I loved them in The Thieves.
The writing may be flawed but I truly enjoyed this drama. I am going to miss the characters that I’ve come to love. And I wish the best of luck to the cast who worked hard even with the cold. Looking forward to their future projects.
I don’t know why, but the only couple that I liked in this drama is Two Moms. If their kids’ marriage makes both Moms happy, then OK, let it be. If for some reason not, then I don’t really care how the OTP will end.
i have enjoyed this drama more than boys over flowers. But the only writers that I’ll be following in the future no particular order are Hong sisters (King 2 Hearts), Hong sisters (you’re beautiful), Park Hye Ryun (dream high & I hear your voice), Song Jae-jung(Nine) Sorry Kim Eun Sook.
Thanks for sharing! What happen to the theory of CES being adopted and was a heiress herself? That would’ve been fun to watch. Sad it’s coming to an end will miss the cast. Can’t wait to Wed!
Not gonna lie, I’m glad to say good-bye to Heirs, if nothing else so that I don’t have to hear ‘Love is the Moment’ ever again. LOL
It was a disappointment for me, in so many ways, but there have been a few bright spots here and there. I’ll miss the cast, at the very least.
Also, the end of Heirs means that next week there will a be brand new drama for us to enjoy, and I can’t wait for that. 🙂
