I’ve gotten a new angle on tvN drama Mouse and it’s all thanks to Falcon and the Winter Soldier. I didn’t watch it due to time constraints but Mr. Koala and Koala Teen Girl did (emo Koala Teen Boy is not into super heroes lol), and hearing snippets on the television and of course being a full Marvel fangirl I realized that the screenwriter of Mouse may have been trying to do a Winter Soldier arc with Jung Ba Reum except done really clunkily. We all know Bucky was brainwashed and to date he’s been pardoned and even forgiven by the families of people he killed while he was brainwashed. So if Jung Ba Reum was born with the psychopath gene and it’s something he cannot control and is akin to brainwashing, i.e. he acts in ways beyond will power, then can we forgive him and give him a redemption arc now that he has emotional sanity back with Yo Han’s brain transplanted into him? I’m guessing no because his kills and crimes are so horrific, but then again if he did it beyond his control and now he has control does that lessen what he did? Likely not for the families of people he killed (hello, Bong Yi and Moo Chi!), and for the audience after watching the two special episodes this week which show scenes from earlier in the drama from Ba Reum’s point of view, we’re all going to want to slice and dice him personally for his crimes. I’m not sure if it’s worth the production doing this and delaying the final five episodes but I’m in for a penny, in for a pound now so bring it on!

Lee Seung-gi is so awesome in it! I so wish that the drama was great too.
Mouse is such a great drama. I haven’t watched a single drama since early 2018, everything else is the same boring formula and nothing is gripping or interesting enough to make me sit through it, but Mouse broke that. Lee Seung gi is showing such a huge range in acting, he’s crazy good and daesang worthy (too bad tvn doesn’t hold a yearly award event). Those two episodes were welcomed (at least by me) as they answered many questions or confusions the first part of the drama (1-6 ep) left hanging. I had an inner debate on whether the current Bareum should be punished for old Bareum’s sins and even if the justice lets him roam free, he’ll be cut off by his most precious people (Moochi and Bongyi) AND he’ll suffer from regret and guilt (the writer’s goal all along was for psychopath to feel guilty for their deeds). Can’t wait to see how the later episodes will turn out.
