Hold my beer, there is A LOT to unpack here. A C-drama remake of hit K-drama Goblin is reportedly in the works, casting calls are out and the production team has been assembled. It’s schedule to air exclusively on Netflix and will be a 36-episode drama with 45-minutes per episode. The PD remains unknown but original screenwriter Kim Eun Sook is named as the screenwriter for this remake. The filming will be in Macau, Hainan Island, and Xiamen so South China sea area basically. This does not sound like a cheesy low budget remake which sometimes happens with C-ent remakes, like the upcoming C-remake of W: Two Worlds does not look promising in the least. I don’t know why a C-remake for Goblin is needed with the original is still very watchable and the problems there are with the script which is the remake hews close to will still happen. Though Kim Go Eun really did not work for me as Ji Eun Tak, she’s so much better elsewhere in other roles, so if the right female lead is cast here perhaps it would bridge that. But of course, the giant elephant in the room is which C-drama male lead is A-list enough with the same range of acting charisma as Gong Yoo to play General Kim Shin.

They don't change the name? Heheehehhehe.. So there will be a teen with the name of Liu Dehua aka Andy Lau? OMG sooooo old-fashioned hahahahahahahahahaha.... And too many 金 there unless the setting is in Zhejiang province.
Deok-hwa's name is supposed to sound old-fashioned even in Korean, so it wouldn't be a problem.
Does that mean China can stop interfering w/ drama restrictions if airing only on Netflix?!!!! This can totally work.
I'm confused too. I thought Chinese actors can only do dramas which have the permission to film. Why do I get a feeling that the actors for this c-remake may be actors banned from appearing in dramas in China?
I'm confused too. I thought Chinese actors can only do dramas which have the permission to film. Why do I get a feeling that the actors for this c-remake may be those actors who cannot appear in dramas in China? Either that or they gonna use Hong Kong and/or Taiwanese actors.
Wallace Huo?
I don’t think the issue is just finding someone to match Gong Yoo. It’s also finding the right cast overall that could have the epic chemistry the other 3 leads had. Shin-Reaper, Sunny-reaper, Sunny-Shin - those relationships are epic because of the cast that just made it magical. I suppose if they can somehow get it right, then it would be nice to get a proper Eun-Tak but really, why does this need to be remade again? Just watch the kdrama lol.
so true. GongDong bromance will always be the best team for me. It will be hard. these are large shoes that they need to fill!
Best bromance ever! A remake will never do that justice 👍😂
No, just no!
Wallace Huo? I think KGE did a fantastic job at portraying Eun Tak. As for the Grim Reaper ithink Peter Sheng will do just fine!
how can kim eun sook be writing the same story? are they just going to translate the original script to chinese?
as for ML, i can only think of hu ge.
Hu Ge and Wang Kai to bring back my Nirvana in Fire bromance. Then Wu Lei as Seung Jae's character hahaha
I think Mark Chao as Goblin will be very good.
Wanna see this <3
Smells like a cash grab by KES. No shame. I would do the same.
As for actors, not Wallace Huo or Hu Ge. WH doesn't have the acting chops or charisma (he was the weakest link in 如懿转, and as stiff as a board there) and Hu Ge suits the poetic emo vibe more.
I would nominate Wang Kai or Mark Zhao (as someone else mentioned).
Well we know one General, Li Buyi. Too young? Well since the Goblin is ageless, i guess he'll do. Get someone who is not a high schooler for the FL. That was everyone's beef, if i recall. make her one struggling through med school or in law school faced with some dilemma. Though I agree, why a remake? Will it address the shortcomings of the original, given the same author at the helm?
