It’s weird that season 1 of Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim had the two younger leads not return for season 2 but now the 3rd season will continue with the same cast as season 2. I guess Seo Hyun Jin and Yoo Yeon Seok were just too big at that point for another subordinate still learning the ropes role but much younger leads Lee Sung Kyung and Ahn Hyo Seob give off the vibe they still have plenty to glean from the titular doctor/teacher. It was earlier announced that SBS will produce season 3 of the drama with main lead Han Suk Kyu but now it’s confirmed that his mentees will be returning. In addition to, third male lead Kim Joo Hun is also returning woo hoo. This leaves a few more familiar faces like Shin Dong Wook, So Joo Yeon, Kim Min Jae, Jin Kyung, and Yoon Bora (if they sign on) to make a true seasonal drama with the same cast like a US TV show. Here’s hoping for more interesting medical stories.
I would prefer they changed the 2 leads… Yang Se-Jong with a new actress would have been perfect!
I can see Why Yang Se Jong is not the main lead, since his character in drama is powerful people which already represent by the villain, and female lead which is already rich. Seo Woo Jin represent normal or poor people working in doldam hospital and as character he is alot more compelling to the narative and his arc can do more IMO.
I agree with that. Yang Se Jong character was introduced in season 1, and had a guest appearance in season 2 as well. I’m sure his one-sided love with season 1 FL was over, and they should introduce a new girl doctor or nurse character with a great backstory as new FL and love intest for his character in season 3.
Yang Se Jong is already a famous established lead actor, he could bring better results.

His character had so much more layers left to be peeled off and explore. And I really really do miss him..
They could have changed it up with Sejong’s family/father fall from grace being imprisoned and all, and with Sejong being outcasted/blacklisted from mostly all hospital for being his son; and him coming back to doldam hospital…
I agree with you , as the story of the “2 leads ” was already said . A change would have been more exciting and the role of Yang Se-young wasn’t enough explored . Aside that, i wish for the return of all the hospital staff ( nurses, administrators,…) Kim Min Jae .
I am super excited about this!!!. I love Eun Jae and Woo Jin. They had great chemistry and loved the push and pull they had going. I have been waiting for the sequel for 2 years.
I actually surprise They re-cast Ahn Hyo Seop and Lee Sung Kyung. and Not Seo Hyun Jin and Yoo Yun Seok. I don’t think Seo Hyun Jin has already too big, since romantic dr 2 has already a big drama. between those times, there is a times Seo Hyun Jin choosing a not high profile drama at all like You are My Spring and drama which not always revolved around her character like Black Dog. More than her name, I think It’s just a matter of schedule may be.
I actually loving Lee Sung Kyung and Ahn Hyo Seop performances alot and love their chemistry and dynamic which not always as a romance partner. Especially loving Lee Sung Kyung performances which is so nuance that I don’t feel like they lose reliable female lead when they change it to Lee Sung Kyung.
I actually don’t like medical drama because they usually has alot of surgery scene which often I skip LOL. I watched it both season this years and enjoy it alot to my surprise. Yo In SHik is really a talent PD.
I don’t know if this drama will a hit drama once again, but I often think they should end it in second season, and it will be just fine without third season. But if they insist to make a third season, well good luck with that lol.
Hmm I am not sure this needs a S3 but I will check it out anyway.
It was quite clear from Aeason 1 that the writer intended for the drama to be at least a trilogy.
Teacher Kim had mentioned in S1 that he wanted to build a Trauma Centre.
In S2 he set the intent in motion. At the end of S2, he put the character played by Kim Joo Hun in charge of actualising the Trauma Centre.
S3 may focus on the Tauma Centre itself or if not, perhaps the centre will be formed by end of S3.
I’m pretty sure Yoo Yeon Seok declined RD season 2 to join Hospital Playlist, a bigger project. He didn’t reprise his role therefore Seo Huyn Jin did not join DR2 as well.
