K-netizens Flummoxed By the Casting of Ahn Bo Hyun as the Weak Constitution Male Lead Opposite Shin Hye Sun in See You in My 19th Life

I’m with the K-netizens on this one but also think it will make for an interesting works/mega fail dichotomy when the drama comes out. The casting of Ahn Bo Hyun as the male lead in the upcoming fantasy romance See You in My 19th Life with Shin Hye Sun as the female lead sounds like a good pairing of two talented actors, but for the description of the male lead character. He’s described as a younger chaebol heir with PTSD after going to the amusement park with his first love at 9 years old and suffering a catastrophic accident. He’s so emotionally fragile he can’t even finish a bowl of rice and barely has an appetite type of guy. K-netizens are asking if there is no more male leads in K-ent as this role calls for a Lee Jong Seok or Park Bo Gum to pull off whereas Ahn Bo Hyun looks like he eats 4 or 5 bowls of rice in one sitting and can bench press the female lead. Mwahahaha, so true, he’s legit one of the top three buffest male actors in K-ent, even his other male leads tease him and want to touch his arm guns on variety shows. Anyhoo, the drama has been filming already and I’m even more intrigued thanks to this wholly against-type casting.

    • Nahh, i read the webtoon, the FL reborn after the accident and now much younger than the ML. So the ML is now 31yo and FL 21yo in the webtoon. So technically not noona dongsaeng, but psychologically noona dongsaeng since she can remember her past lifes.

      • I don’t think Lee Jong Suk and Park Bo Gum can potraying a sincerity acting for being fragile and vulnerable at all. They might have the physical body. But they will afall short in acting departement. Choi woo sik might be the man.

But physical aside, ahn bo hyun can potray emotionally fragile person as he proof it in Yumi cell.

  2. I thought the same at first and then I remember his Woong in “Yumi’s cells”…he was a total softie in it and he nailed his role to perfection. I would have preferred Lee Do Hyun as Moon Seo Ha tbh but I trust Ahn Bo Hyun…he will give justice to the character.

  3. There are muscled, manly former soldiers with crippling PTSD out there, what in the world does a person’s appearance have to do with being emotionally fragile? There has to be more to the noise than that because this isn’t making sense to me.

    • One can really tell who among those whiners arent familiar with the webtoon and just going off with the short description. The ML is indeed emotionally fragile, but nowhere is he weak in physical attributes [heck he’s actually pretty strong physically and can defend himself]. But, he is suffering from trauma. He’s one of the best ML i’ve read from a manhwa/webtoon, and after finishing it, I think ABH suits the ML.

  4. I’m not as bothered abt the visuals – actors can lose weight to fit the role. I just don’t find him to be a good actor, rather mediocre actually. Now Shin Hye Sun I absolutely loveeeee to bits and can’t wait to see her back on my screen <3

  5. Whenever I feel like an actor’s physique doesn’t quite fit the character, I think of Matsumoto Jun as Doumyoji Tsukasa in Hana Yori Dango. I remember hating the casting, but he had won me over. So maybe Ahn Bo-hyun will do the same. And as said above – he could always lose weight or wear clothes that de-emphasizes his physique.
