Jung Kyung Ho Rockets Up the Buzz Charts Again as the Perfect Beta Male Lead Thanks to Impeccable Performance in Crash Course on Romance

If I haven’t watched Jung Kyung Ho stretch his acting (and genre) chops so much in his nearly two decade long career I would absolutely believe that he is always acting as himself, the perfect beta male lead. It started with Smile, You as his breakout drama and has continued off and on until now it’s back in the spotlight again with his role in Crash Course on Romance. The drama plays up his finicky fastidiousness stemming from school age emotional hang ups but he’s now so successful that it’s great seeing the two blend into a fully formed 4D complex and interesting character with still so much growth potential. I’ve seen so much discussion on the web about him these past two weeks, he’s definitely getting the lion’s share of the buzz from Crash Course and also bringing back all the nostalgia good feels from his past great performances.

    • Love him in anything . From “Time between dog and wolf ” to Life on Mars ( great ) His character was my fav one in Hospital Playlist . I even finished Missing 9 for him .

      • Those two are literally my favorites from him. Life on mars was so exceptional and I found him through time between dog and wolf.

    • I also loved him as Kim Jun Wan! And after HP, I searched for all his dramas. I love Smile, You , Heartless City and Life On Mars… But I can’t wait for all the eps of Crash Course until I binge…so I binge on all eps for a week…

  2. Loved him from Smile You, through Heartless City all the way to Crash Course on Romance. Unpopular opinion but his character in Crash Course is great but he had many other great dramas. It’s a little sad how long he had to wait for all the buzz.

  3. He is really great in this kind of roles, and so glad he is rise up again with the unexpected hits crash course on romance. He always know how to create chemistry with his leading lady, I remember I was so giddy watching him with Lee Min Jung in Smile you. I actually surprise he still can create buzz in romantic comedy.

But still my fav performances of him will always be heartless city. If only his hits drama is heartless city, he will be typecast as paksa adel once again, hehe

  4. He is comedy GOLD!! I LOL so hard when he was holding the belt at the end of episode 5 😂 This role reminded me of his role in Falling for Innocence/ Beating Heat. Same comedic timing and off the wall character, but somehow it’s different so endearing. I wished they would have picked a younger actress, closer to his age. But Jeon Do Yeon looks young for her age, so it’s no biggie. Maybe the ahjumma hairstyle doesn’t look good on her haha😜

    • Choose a younger one may not lead to a strong rating like this, you can see the rating previously how dismal romcoms are with younger actresses

      • Are you saying that there are no good upcoming actresses? They absolutely could have found an age appropriate leading lady for JKH or an age appropriate leading man for JDY. The age gap is very visually obvious here.

    • The actress is good … but they could have found a younger female lead. That would flutter the hearts of the audience even more. Loved him in this role

  5. Jung Kyung Ho has been one of my all-time favorite actors since Time Between Dog and Wolf, and Cruel City cemented it. He is absolutely one of the best actors in Korea. I just think he doesn’t get the recognition he deserves and I’m so happy he is getting more love. He deserves it all. I just hope he does an action role again or a sageuk because he really is at his best as a brooding action hero.

  6. I have no idea he has been around for so long. I started noticing him in Prison Playlist.
I love Prison Playlist so much, it introduced me to many established actors, unknown in Kdrama because they are from the movie, musical/stage circles.

  7. Could you share please what kind of discussion you have seen about him online? Curious to know. 🙂
And I also like his Character so much here. But i think part of the reason is also his chemistry with the female actress. She is effortlessly funny and charming haha

  8. I’m a big big fan of Jung kyung ho and loved her all the dramas especially another happy ending.just couldn’t eyes off from her character.he deserves more then he get from the past.waiting crash course in romance upcoming episode impatiently.😍

    • Nah, it’s been used by women to put down men for a long, long time. But sure, it’s problematic because incels might use it…

      • Incels literally use it more than women do, but sure, put down women again and defend the honor of the poor, defenseless males, that’s what you do best anyway, miss pick-me

  9. Loved him since TBDW and really enjoying him in this drama.I think the 10s in kdrama were all about idol looking and handsome youthful actors. But now people value acting chops more than looks. It’s like we’ve entered a new era. It is nice to see actors who were overlooked for so many years being appreciated.

    • I don’t know if we are entering a new era, but i agree with you . Nam Goong Min took a long time before becoming who he is now ! It’s sad that a hit or buzz drama is always needed for one to be noticed . A lot of good actors never got the chance or the good timing to shine ( Chun Jung Myung, Kim Kang woo, Park Ki Woong, kim Ji Woon, …)to name a few ones

  10. He is really an amazing actor! Anyone who has watched his lead dramas will know how good he is an as actor. His comedic acting is just cherry on top. Life of Mars, prison playback, hospital playlist are my favourites of him

    • I agree. Its hard to watch cos she looks older than her 50 years and he looks much younger than his real life age. Jarring. I skipper all the romance scenes. They could have given her a younger hairstyle. Arrggghh

      • Yes, the hairstyle is killing me. She already looks pretty old and her weird ahjumma bangs and frizzy hair certainly don’t help.

      • Why dont you guys watch it with an open mind…Ignore their real ages…becoz in reality, there are a lot of women that looks older than their ages, what more a person like the character who went thru hardships and be a mother, sacrificing her life for a child…imagine someone who is like her, never date, haven’t got the chance to live her young life, suddenly got thrown into this with a a responsibility to take care of a child..a mother or expecting mother at least got 9 months to prepare for that, but she is not…so, I believe those hardship could strip away a youthfulness of anybody…yes, for me, in the drama, it’s right for her face to look a bit older than the guy, but we can see her character and physical as quite youthful, I mean she is young at heart, juz not her face, but not that old for me…think about it, does a person who looks older than her age does not deserve love? She does, after what she went thru and sacrifice, cant she deserve the guy…so, let’s just enjoy the drama, besides we all know both really carried their characters really well…

    • just throwing it out there for fun – some other potential leads i had in mind were Ha Ji Won, Bae Doona, Seo Hyun Jin, Cho Yeon Jong or Lee Bo Young

      • But, they didnt fit well with the characters…that’s why there are certain types of characters that they always played…

  11. I love him in Time Between Wolf and Dog.. and now I’m wondering how many decades I’ve been watching K & C dramas but still can’t speak both..LOL

  12. I also loved him as Kim Jun Wan! And after HP, I searched for all his dramas. I love Smile, You , Heartless City and Life On Mars… But I can’t wait for all the eps of Crash Course until I binge…so I binge on all eps for a week…

  13. He is so Underrated i love him since I’m sorry I love you even though he is just a second lead in the drama from then i watched all his dramas and even his movies, His acting is great and he can do any genre… love all his dramas everything he does is a good one.
