C-ent Latest Buzz Has Period C-drama Story of Kunning Palace with Bai Lu and Zhang Ling He Airing at the End of September After Scuttled May Premiere

So this feels like a been there done that but there is indeed new credible rumors that period C-drama Story of Kunning Palace will air soon. The buzzed about date is end of September, likely following My Journey to You, which will make it a Zhang Ling He drama following his own drama. Story of Kunning Palace seems more primed for success due to the popularity of Bai Lu and the more straight forward palace revenge plot. There is also the added bonus of checking out the chemistry between the leads who are dating in real life, not confirmed but basically an open secret in C-ent. I think there is a legit chance this will drop so I’ll be on the optimistic look out.

    • A lot of hype online but the real data show actual viewership not as high as its fans advertised. The following have been the daily top 3 viewership among those C dramas currently on air: (Per KY data collected from all TV channels and online streaming platforms)

      1. Sunshine by My Side (starring Xiao Zhan/Bai Baihe)
      2. A Long Way Home (staring Guo Tao/Zhang Wan Yi)
      3. My Journey to You

      • Interesting, thanks!

Do you think the Japanese aesthetic controversy had an impact? The case seems less strong than for Queen Lau.

      • I personally dont think it is deal to it looking Japanese… but it will not surprise me most viewers enjoy seeing stronger colours for dramas..but the drama in itself may not suit as many audience as they want to achieve.

        Just my thoughts…

      • @Rina, Nope. I don’t think the Japanese-controversy nonsense has a significant impact on the drama ratings. It’s just top 1 drama is starring the most popular C actor and a very skillful veteran actress who already have a huge following of their drama. #2 drama has a good review and it’s aired on CCTV1 that most Chinese audience have access to. Besides, MJtY’s dark theme isn’t for everyone. MjtY is a web drama that not all the Chinese audience would watch. MjTY is doing ok on the only web streaming site. But that’s the only access to the drama. Top 1 & 2, however, are aired on multiple platforms.

    • I don’t think My Journey to You is as clever as they think they are. While I think there are a lot of pretty scenes and pretty people, every “plot twist” so far has been incredibly predictable. I also don’t feel like his big brother is dead. We’ve already seen early on that the Gong family has medicine that can give the false impression of death with the messenger guy at the outpost at the beginning.

    • Just Google “Bai Lu Zhang Linghe dating”. Rumors and speculations, of course, bases on the fact that she was spotted at his house a couple of times. He got some pretty nasty comments because of that. You know, the usual fans that think they own their idol.

  1. It seems nowadays C-ent is rushing to release all the dramas once they have passed state review. Good for both production team and fans.

  2. TBH, as an audience, I’ve had enough of ancient idol romance dramas for this year. Arrrgh I want Tencent to release the newest drama from the Candle in the Tomb series 南海归墟 right away. I also want iQiyi to start filming that 大唐赋 and 大汉赋 asap.

  3. Not a fan of BL but am interested in the plot! I hope it does well. Have y’all watched I am Nobody? I just started getting into this and I was told this drama was aired and then paused for a bit and now resuming airing. It’s definitely a fun watch (minus the ML who can be too much sometimes.)

      • Agreed; it’s so imaginative and funny! I am loving each subsequent episode. But I wonder how it will end given that the actual anime is still in production and not done yet. I assume the donghua is the same.

      • Dang! But I just watched the anime cus I can’t stand not knowing and waiting around. It looks like there’s still a lot of material to cover, so as far as the drama is concerned, looks like we still gots a way to go.

Also, can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think the drama trumps the anime! Certain segments of the anime over-explain things and coupled with arguably average animation, makes the actual drama more succinct and I’m not having a hard time watching the characters.
