I feel like my goodwill towards K-actress Kim Yoo Jung is limitless, or shall I say endless. It doesn’t matter if her drama or movie isn’t that good, she’s just forever that charming, adorable, and worth watching onscreen for me. I may not always finish a project that’s lackluster but her performances are never a waste of screentime. Her most recent fantasy romance drama My Demon with Song Kang had all the hallmarks of being good but the incredibly bad writing was just so bad there was no way for the cast or solid directing to overcome it. But for her diehard fans at least she made it fun to watch her portion and after the drama wrapped she announced fan meetings in Seoul that recently took place. She looks so pretty and radianting positive energy, I’m sure her local fans enjoyed the live on stage time with her.
Woah… she is gorgeous!
My Demon was interesting at the beginning, but as usual with most K-dramas, the writing frizzled off quickly. I was quite disappointed and dropped the drama mid-way. I hope she will get better scripts in the future.
Kim Yoo Jung is always delivers no matter what kind of role it was. She’s the best one in her age bracket(96-99). She radiates energy and brings overflowing chemistry with her all costars. Everything she touches hit like My demkn 19th century girl or Love in the moonlight. Most ppl hype some actresses who got spotlight because of one role but can bring ratings on their own or nail any role then like Shin Ye Eun or Seol in ah. Even Go yun Jung fans should be humble since she should be geateful she has that trendy chic face otherwise, nobody could handle to watch her wooden acting. Kim Yoo Jung will be more successful in the near future with her charming beaty and talent.
Weird that it is impossible for you to praise someone without denigrating others.
Kim Yoo-jung is a fantastic actress in her own right, and I look forward to what she does next.
That’s the average Kim You Jung fan, to be honest. I swear, everytime there’s an article here about their fave, instead of just posting positive comments about her then moving on with their day, they would rather mention some random actress just to make their You Jung look superior. Super weird behavior.
Actually, Kim Yoo Jung hasn’t had a proper kdrama ratings hit since Moonlight. That’s 8 years ago. So try not shitting on other actresses on your way to stanning your favourite. Particularly not when all the three actresses you decided to shot on have high rated and/or buzzy dramas where their performances were lauded by both fans and critics. All within the past 2 years (:
tbf ‘ratings hit’ these days seems to include any terrestrial that got double digit ratings on a weekday since those have been rare for a while now. And by that standard, Kim Yoojung’s last drama before My Demon – Lovers of the Red Sky – was successful, and that was a 2021 drama.
agree that people should dial down on putting down other actresses who get praised though.
That’s why I used the word “proper”. Hitting double digit once in the finale of a 16 ep drama in a terrestrial channel vs what Moonlight achieved – huge difference. And, by Miley’s own examples, what Business Proposal, or Alchemy of Souls (a cable drama) achieved – there’s no comparison. It would be moot to bring in Glory or Moving since they don’t have TV ratings, but frankly, the difference in quality, impact, critical acclaim and recognition is vastly different between the projects KYJ has done vs the actresses being smeared here.
@Butterfly – fair point about Alchemy of Souls, but A Business Proposal was also an SBS Mon-Tues drama and had peak ratings only 1 point higher than LOTRS.
Anyway it’s moot, LOTRS and ABP were the only SBS dramas in that time slot that started airing in 2021 or 2022, to hit double digits at all. SBS discontinued airing dramas on Mon-Tues altogether in May 2023, I have a feeling this wouldn’t be the case if any other drama they aired managed a 10 percent rating – every other drama couldn’t even break past 5-odd percent. A sad end to that time slot tbh.
This Miley person has intended to stir up fan wars here. Stupid move!! KYJ is a good actress but definitely not the best one in her age bracket. No need to drag other actresses in the comment.
I’m going to chalk you up as a anti trying to get KYJ more hate. Those superlatives you’re spewing are in no way true, and you’re just looking to stir the pot. Also, this isn’t a zero sum game. They can all be successful!
“Best in her age bracket” but hasn’t had a Baeksang best actress nomination yet lmfao, all she has are popularity awards that her agency bought for her. So great, right? 😍 Even Suzy got a Baeksang best actress nomination before her 😂😂😂
And why even mention Go Youn Jung and Seol In Ah? Your fandom shouldn’t be talking about arrogance and “being humble” because everyone knows your fandom is the most arrogant KDrama actress fandom. Also, Go Youn Jung is a very good actress and is now Han So Hee’s replacement for that one CF, just goes to show her star will only rise from now on. From what I’ve observed on this site (don’t know about other social media platforms), Go Youn Jung’s fans are mostly chill people too, who don’t do fanwars, unlike you and your fandom lol
lol wut? best in her age bracket how? she was literally criticized badly for her bad acting in her last drama. even korean netizens started to realize she was only good as a child actress and the rest of the hype was nostalgia lol. pipe down and stop with the lies, she’s objectively not a great actress, unless your standard of “great acting” is her being cringey in my demon and trying so hard to look like a fierce ice queen lmaooo
I find it endlessly fascinating how diametrically opposed in reactions and interpretations people can be regarding the same piece of fiction (novel, TV series, movie). On that note, I have to say I loved “My Demon” to bits. I feel that K-dramas nowadays rarely (if ever) do larger-than-life romance anymore, and I miss that very much–but “My Demon” totally did! And if anything, I found the writing its strongest point (directing and acting were fine, too–except for Song Kang’s comedic acting lol).
I was recently on a fantasy K-drama streak, where I watched multiple K-dramas with a non-human ML. And from all of them, I really thought “My Demon” was the most cohesively written. “Doom at your Service”‘s writing was too pretentious and capricious, “My Roommate is a Gumiho” had big inconsistencies/contradictions, “Tale of the Nine-Tailed” had no big issues but for some reason I didn’t spark with the romance as much.
Anyway, I’m glad Kim Yoo-jung took on her role “My Demon”. She was great in it, and her chemistry with Song Kang was the best.
My Demon is one of the most boring K dramas I’ve ever finished. I finished it just to make sure I’m not biased against the drama and my criticism isn’t baseless. LOL. KYJ fared better in Sageuk cos she looked fabulous in hanbok and her manner is a good fit for that period. I think she needs a few more years of experience to take any company executive role. I hope she will grow like some of her seniors who were bland in acting when they were young but evolved with impressive performances years later. I will always check her dramas cos she is very likeable.
You finished it? LOL. It was so boring I dropped it. KYJ is a good actress but I do think she needs help picking projects. After Moonlight in 2016, very few of her work has enticed me to even look at them. And then she goes and stars in another ‘chicken’ drama…..
It took me several months to finish it. LMAO. I switched to other more interesting dramas in the meanwhile.
My Demon’s writing was weak, they didn’t really know what they were doing with this demon and how making it worked. But the drama was very pretty and I liked KYJ in this role, she was stunning.
I like her enough to check out her works even if I might end up dropping them.
Whoa! I’m jumping in here because Koala likes Kim Yoo Jung too! Yipee! I’m glad to hear this. Thanks Koala. Really appreciate what you have written about Yoo Jung. She’s my favourite actress too. My Demon may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for me personally, it’s one of the best dramas I have ever watch. Their (Song Kang & Yoo Jung)’s chemistry is ELECTRIFYING⚡⚡. And I’m shipping them unconditionally…lol..😈💏
I like the girl , she is fresh, charming like Kim Se Jong but she doesn’t have the Midas touch for selecting her projects .
😂 I do agree…
KYJ does not fit the role of a CEO. Not everyone wearing super high heels 👠 and designer suits has the aura of an executive. Story is not convincing (I blame the weak script) except for the historical part when she wears the hanbok. Also her exaggerated acting looks cringey. I like her costume dramas more than modern ones.
KYJ is absolutely beautiful and I think she still has a lot of potential as an actress but she seems to get poor advice when picking projects part from maybe 20th Century Girl. There are a lot of actress in her age group surpassing her. I think it would be better for her to take some interesting, challenging supporting roles rather than yet another mediocre lead role.
is this a joke that you are telling her to take a Supporting Role?
