So my little bae Dylan Wang has been picky recently with his projects so he doesn’t have a lot on deck, in the pocket there is the finished period drama Guardians of the Dafeng coming out this fall and he’s filming the modern police drama Light to the Night right now. So it perked me up to hear that he’s been offered the male lead in a big C-drama adaptation of the novel The Path Towards Heaven by writer Mao Ni who also wrote the novel Joy of Life which ended up super big hits when adapted to an drama. If Dylan accepts he’ll be top billed as this is yet another strong male lead centric story that is xianxia or wuxia with a side of fantasy mixed in.
This year 2024 has been a slow year for K-actress Suzy in terms of her…
There are weird casting choices and this one is weird from both the leads itself…
Well this is an interesting pairing, setting aside the age difference at least I can…
I swear I just wrote about Song Joong Ki having his first baby and then…
At the end of the day, the core of any good drama remains the Story,…
If I didn't know this drama was a romance set in space and done K-drama…

Oh so it's offered to Dylan Wang now? I saw on Twitter/X a few days back it was Deng Wei to be the male lead. Of course nothing is set in stone in C-ent until after the booting ceremony..
Hopefully not. With that horrible voice and even worse acting skills, it would ruin it.
That modern drama with Bai Lu still makes me shudder in unter horror and certainly clinched it for me. I will avoid any project like the plague if Dylan Wang is in it. I honestly haven't the faintest idea why he is so popular as an actor.
Conversely it gave me a new appreciation of Bai Lu who had been pale to me before as an actress, if she can look watchable in that mess of a drama.
I am glad he is pacing himself...no point spreading too thin. He does have a very charming smile... I will not comment on his acting skills but I do enjoy seeing him in variety shows. He has a 🌞 nature.
I hope the new drama will suit him.
Mao Ni's novel adaptations very much depend on the scriptwriter & the director. The success of Joy of Life 1 & 2 is generally attributed to Wang Juan the scriptwriter. Ever Night 1 was very well made thanks to Yang Yang's direction, and I'd say Arthur Chen's charismatic portrayal -- the writing not so much. And even Yang Yang couldn't save EN2 from being a disaster. Fight Break Sphere 1 & 2 didn't make splash.
Fight Break Sphere/Battle Through the Heavens isn't written by Mao Ni, it is written by Tiancan Tudou who also wrote the novels Martial Universe, The Great Ruler.
Mao Ni is more wuxia than straight Xanxia cultivation stories. I thought Ever Night season 1 was well written, similar to the great novel but Joy of Life 2 is much better written than season one that didn't do Fan Xian, Joy of Life novel justice at all.
I actually loved Ever Night 1, but agree that Ever Night 2 was a disaster. When you're making multiple seasons like that, you need to bring back the original cast. It was too jarring for me to watch a brand new lead, and half the characters being replaced by actors who portrayed them so differently.
Wow, what a downgrade from Zhang Ruoyun to Dylan Wang. Surely Mao Ni's stories deserve better and there are better actors out there?
Dylan will surely do his best as an actor. For the haters they are afraid that they will be losers thats why they are so scare of competition. Thumbs up for Dylan. You are the best.
Wasn't he already doing his best in the other dramas? And still they demonstrate his acting skills as mediocre.
Like Gong Jun, pretty face should just be walking mannequins and advertise clothes and accessories.
Gee such a lot of Dylan haters in the comments. I really enjoy his recent efforts so will look forward to any new projects he does.
Okay, he was quite decent from what I saw in LBFAD, but still mediocre in acting for his dramas that were aired later. I'm still not the biggest fan of him thus have stayed pretty clear from his dramas. I did try tuning in to see some of his work yet having to just drop them.
I personally like him in 'LBFAD' and 'The Rational Life'
'Unchained Love' was unfortunately a disappointing show due to censorship. It could have been an entertaining watch if not for those restrictions (Chen Yuqi and Dylan had good chemistry after all)
I'm so looking forward to 'Guardians of the Dafeng', trailer got me interested and I trust Dylan's comedic ability. I wish him the best.
I guess I'll give constructive criticism. A Liuliang taking the lead of popular IPs, especially from popular Wu Xia novels receives tons of skepticism. As mentioned above, I loved Ever Night but Ever Night 2, didn't have the same essence of the original because Dylan took over Chen Feiyu's role and it didn't match up at all.
Didi's Mandarin and diction still has a strong Sichuanese accent. Basically, think of comparing a standard North American English versus someone from New Orleans/the South. Opposite ends of a pole.
Compare that to the breakout cast of Creation of the Gods who underwent hardcore bootcamp training for almost 2 years with their blockbuster. They not only transformed their bodies, but they did everything from Chinese culture/history lessons, etiquette classes, language diction exercises, acting class prep and the list goes on. Naran, the Russian Buryat actress who played Su Daji, was not even fluent in Mandarin before the bootcamp. She's the prime example of how actors should put in the work and she's also leading her first drama soon.
Dylan has definitely reached heights since he broke out in Love Between Fairy and Devil but in order for him to be deserving of his first billing credit, he has to improve. Acting coaches can really shape him up and go the extra mile, especially if he wants to do films too. There's always someone up and coming in C-ent and everyone has to clamour for roles.
