The long break for C-actor Yang Yang to get back on the small screen has been good for him after last summer’s disastrous Fireworks of My Heart airing where he got hit with the “oily acting” comments in full force. Since then he’s filmed The Immortal Ascension but no word on when that will air, and end of this month he will start filming the wuxia investigation C-drama Zhan Zhao Adventures with the Chinese title 雨霖铃 Yu Lin Ling adapted from the same name novel. The female lead is Zhang Ruo Nan who has a sweet wholesome vibe and these two could pair well together on a story based on a beloved fictional hero Zhan Zhao.

He needs a strong female lead to makeup for his lack of acting skills. While I like the actress, I don't think she's up there in terms of skills either. Could work out or not . We shall see! Lol
If his character is based on looking good and being of few words, Yang Yang Yang will have no problem. But if it is a character with a wide range of emotions, the story tells itself LOL.
I wonder why is he popular?
@Rikk
He is hot. Hot men can get away with anything, including incompetence.
@Ehhh
The same can be said about women.
Countless famous women get jobs but can't act at all.
They get jobs based on beauty and based on pleasing the men who hire them.
@Lin It's funny how when men are mentioned, they quickly jump to mention women as if they feel the need to create a competition. LOL. It is a pattern that I have observed to be prevalent in C-dramas threads.
@Lin
We are talking about men here, not women.
Pretty privilege exists for both genders but no, it's not nearly the same. Men get away with way more. You don't even have to go further than this very blog to see the insane lengths that fangirls go to when it comes to their oppa or gege. They hand wave serious things like SA like it's nothing. That absolutely does not happen with actresses.
He is handsome enough. As his fan from 2016, I have lost hope in his acting skills. But he’s still my first love in chinese dramaland so I still go watch his drama, as long as they’re somewhat good enough.
@Yuhyi
I watch his dramas too. He is very pretty, I know what to expect and if he doesn't reach too far, I think it's ok. I am not sure how how this will work out for him but dramas like King's Avatar were good because they didn't ask too much of him.
Biased opinion. This casting doesn't appeal because of poor fit for the characters.
Well that's going to be an epic disaster lmao
Who on earth thought YY was a good choice for this?! She is only slightly better. Oof.
Oh gosh, he's going to portray the famed historical bodyguard of Bao Gong?! Eeeek. I would have preferred someone who would do action scenes like Zheng Ye Cheng because it's a wuxia! I want some old-school gritty, hand-to-hand wuxia combat, please.
He needs to hire an acting coach or just retire. Actually all of the Yang Gang needs acting lessons (Yang Yang, Yang Mi, Yang Zi, Yang Ying, Yang Chaoyue).
LOL. This made me laugh. I would challenge you for including Yang Zi though. YZ has become a bit boring but she's not that bad to need an acting coach. She just needs to take up more challenges in other genres.
You're right, Yang Zi is as bad as the others but she needs to challenge herself and pick more diverse roles.
Let's hope Daylight casted him because they're willing to teach him to be a decent actor while working in it. The same can be said about Zhang Ruo Nan. Daylight must have thought about hiring acting coaches for these two.
There are rumours saying the second male lead character is going to be played by Fang Yilun. This one have proved to be a good actor. When he is in a project with a big star, he usually overshadows by a mile at least when it's required of him. He got the baddest luck with his agency not being able to play the game in favour of him.
Who's agency is Fang Yilun in? I agree he has the worst luck. With his looks and acting talents, he should be getting leading roles. This guy can also dance and sing too. So talented but really has bad luck with his agency. He needs to switch to a different one.
Completely agree with you.
He is in the same agency as Zhou Yi Ran (male actor), Qiao Xin, Xing Zhaolin, Jia Nailiang and Li Xiaoran. The English name is Tongle Entertainment.
The fact that Yang Yang gets cast in one high-profile drama after another despite the proven lack of acting skills pinpoints everything that is wrong with C-drama productions.
Looks are favoured over skills and capital calls the shots instead of producers or directors.
If they continue on this track they will ruin their own business
Zhang Ruo Nan is a boring actress
@Ehhh
The same can be said about women.
Women who get jobs based on beauty are suspected of doing other things to please the men who hire them.
I see an ocean of women who can't act but get jobs based on their beauty only.
ZRN ruined a drama I had been looking forward to. This actress is not good enough for lead roles. Pairing both her and YY together, lol.
At least Yang Yang looks good. There are actors who live by their physical appearance. But I don't understand how there are actors who neither look good nor know how to act getting roles.
That’s when money and connection got into play
ZRN is good. YY isn't. And pls, don't watch it.
