Supporting C-actor Zhang Hao Wei Announces Career Hiatus After Being Accused of Tax Problems and Prostitution

The last two weeks there has been a small-ish scandal in C-ent around a supporting actor named Zhang Hao Wei. He was most recently seen in a supporting role in Joy of Life 2 and in a small budget period drama Fight for Love as the male lead. Two weeks ago there were allegations and rumors that he engaged in tax evasion and also prostitution. It started with a leaked audio recordings of him talking with actor Dai Xiang Yu, and Zhang Hao Wei’s side claimed he was not close to Dai Xiang Yu, the recording was years ago and he doesn’t remember, and that the recording was heavily edited. Zhang Hao Wei then made an official statement that he was being blackmailed and targeted by someone who was formerly a good friend and set up with mistruths, and to combat it he was going to take a hiatus from acting and fight these allegations. Two big dramas where he is a supporting actor were both set to premiere in the coming weeks with Love Has Fireworks with Tan Jian Ci and Wang Chu Ran and Brocade Odyssey with Tan Song Yun and Zheng Ye Cheng and fans were worried both would be impacted or even JoL2 would be removed from streaming. But industry insiders are saying none of the dramas as of now will be affected and the two not yet aired are still on track to premiere soon.

  2. I will never understand why are new artistes still caught in such situation? The new generation should know what not to do, they have been educated by their Gov.

Even if they are not fully in charge of their accounting, they still need to learn. As it is ultimately their responsibility…

I really doubt the CCP will accept, “I really dont know”, “It was not me” or “my agency was in-charge” etc.

I have to pay 45% tax in my Country…no running away…everyone also need to pay their taxes. Cheating on tax is cheating on the Country you live in.

I do not know if Zhang Hao Wei have really been evading his taxes…as he is still being investigated. But I sincerely hope every artistes take note just how strict China is. Dont mess around.

    • Not defending tax evaders nor this guy that I don’t even know, but if I pay someone to take care of my taxes, I also should feel confident that they take care of my taxes. Every time I have to fill my tax form I feel like ripping off my hair.

      • I run a business thus my accountant does all the company taxes…but for my personal tax, he also does it but I still have to look thru it carefully before signing.

To be honest, there are just too many fraud that can go on, never trust others to do your taxes and manage your funds 100%. Personal experience and advice… Money is always a temptation for many…

  3. Oh, I really, really hope it doesn’t impact on the dramas he’d been in. JOL Seasons 1 and 2, OMG. Imagine that gone. And the two coming up ones–TJC and Seven Tan/Zheng YeChen (whom I’ve been waiting for his next one). Argh.

    • I watched him in fight for love. By the way, Zhang Tian Ai was super pretty. I thought he provides a steady male/actor look, instead of pretty boy or skinny image. His friend-turn-enemy must have been in deep animosity with him.

Or did he change agency? From what I read elsewhere, he or his team has submitted his tax payment evidence. So let’s see what is the truth out there.

      • Yes, but what I meant was, whenever that conversation took place, the “friend” recording was never a friend. The guy decided to record even then, so must have had a sort of a plan to use it as blackmail. But those recordings, if they weren’t tampered with, sounded really disturbing. This young man is in trouble, regardless.

      • Yes your are right. That’s definitely not a friend if the conversation was heavily edited. Maybe he was really jealous to see Zhang gonna be successful. So if it’s not true, than Zhang should sue him….

Unless the whole conversation was real and he was trapping Zhang. So it would be disastrous for Zhang’s career…..these days ppl are getting cancelled even over social etiquette issues ….

  4. I never understood how this guy, with very modest talent and zero charisma, could land all these roles. Now that his “other interests” have been revealed it kind of explains how he got there. There is little chance of weaseling out of the audio recordings, even if it was recorded illegally, he said what he said and that shows a lot of his character.
If he never comes back, I won’t miss him one little bit. I just hope the dramas that he participated in won’t be impacted.

  5. The problem with the prostitution charges is the other names involved. If it were just him, he would be gone but he would drag other big names if he does. Let’s see if this is all swept under the rug, as it usually happens.
