Yu Shi Xin is Adorably Up to No Good Trying to Survive in Game for New Preview of C-drama Love Game in Eastern Fantasy

So I really loved My Journey to You especially Yu Shu Xin completely changing her onscreen image, acting, voice, and performance from her cute image. I know she can do it so it was a bit frustrating to see her take on the C-drama adaptation of the novel The Guide to Capturing a Black Lotus. The drama is titled Love Game in Eastern Fantasy and the new previews are actually…….entertaining and charming. She’s playing a modern woman sucked into a fantasy role player game as the villainous second female lead and needs to survive by aligning herself and leveling up by slaying monsters. It’s basically a xianxia twist on Extraordinary You. I kinda wish the male lead was not Ding Yu Xi and an actor I liked more but he’s serviceable here as the stoic and capable warrior playing the straight man to Yu Shu Xin as the comedic foil.

  • Esther is good at playing over-the-top character because it won't come out annoying but still funny. So I will try to watch it because I love the first trailer. This new trailer kinda dampen my excitement because it has adventure plot which is not my type

    • You put into words exactly how I feel about her! I can't find her annoying even when she's supposed to be annoying because she just seems so fun. She's definitely capable of more serious acting but I really enjoy her in this kind of silly cute role.

  • I have sort of read the novel before, didn't finish it and it was a long time ago. There seems to be major changes to the female lead's character, but i think the changes made the role fit Yu Shuxin better. Since the original novel didn't leave any particularly strong impressions on me, I'll be able to enjoy this drama as a new story when it comes out.

  • Esther does look cute in this drama... I like having double pairing with different personalities.
Not really my cup of tea but I think I will watch if the script is not bad. I do need about of cuteness in my life now since my son left home for Uni... No more kid to joke with and make me laugh...

    • Oh dear, that is a tough spot for every mother! But think of it as an opportunity to take up all those hobbies and do all the stuff you always wanted to do but couldn't, either because you were lacking time or because you simply preferred spending time with your kid!

      • Yes..started mushrooms foraging courses, took up leather Bag making craft... So much to do.

        But still missing the kiddo...😂

  • Esther is not bad but imho she really needs to tone down her voice from doing too much cutesy like anime voice because tbh it can be annoying sometimes. It also could make her stuck doing one type of role. I heard her normal voice while she trying not to make it cutesy and it sounds lovely so I guess she change it to suit her character but still wish she use her normal tone though. I'm still gonna check this out since the premise interests me, hope the script is not bad like a few other novel adaptations.

  • I’m kind of excited for this! I want to watch something fun. I’ve come to like DYX after Melody of a Golden Age, even though the drama itself has its fair share of issues. The last thing of his I actually finished was Tiger and Rose. Hope this is a good one.

  • YSX surprised me. She can do cute but also sultry. Very intriguing. She’s going far.
DYX has an amazing masculine jawline (the best I have in Cdrama land)that is offset by very pretty eyes which makes him very appealing onscreen. He just needs to mature a bit. I don’t mind watching him a few episodes at a time.

  • An almost 'Moonlight' reunion (Esther, Ryan and Yang Shi Ze)...that pairing is working for me. I've never been interested in Ding Yuxi before but his last drama (Melody of the Golden Age) changed my mind about him.
He's manlier and his acting has matured a lot since the last time I watched him. I'm looking forward to this drama.
