Dylan Wang and Meng Zi Yi in Talks for Xianxia C-drama Thriving After the Moon Falls Which is the Prequel Story to Till the End of the Moon

There is a new C-drama being prepped and casting is out and sure to generate discussion. The C-drama is a xianxia period piece titled Thriving After the Moon Falls (Chinese title 烛月潮生 Zhu Yue Cao Sheng) and is the prequel story to the xianxia novel turned C-drama Till the End of the Moon which starred Bai Lu and Luo Yun Xi. The stars offered the lead roles are Dylan Wang and Meng Zi Yi, with some casting insiders saying this is basically a done deal from both the production side and the strong interest of the two to star in it. If it’s true then Meng Zi Yi has definitely leveled up from the success of Blossom to get first dibs on female lead in a likely big production, and if Dylan does accept then he’s going back to the xianxia genre which delivered a big hit for him with Love Between Fairy and Devil.

  • If Meng Ziyi accepts, she's asking to be called a b!tch. It's a ruthless female character for good reason and if they follow the novel, she's not the forgiving type and Dylan will be pitied and sympathized while MZY will be villainized. If they sign up, there's a lot of rewriting to do.

    • Oh, I have not read this novel... It will not surprise me will she does sign up, she does seem up for challenging characters.

Meng Ziyi is a interesting artiste, she went thru roller coaster acting career...high but not high enough, low but not completely forgotten. In between low period she will actively join variety shows. She has no qualms laughing at her weakness and bring joy to others around her. She is a well like artiste but she is truly tone deaf, her singing is unique.

    • If this is a prequel, are they taking the roles of Tan Tai Jin and Ye Xi Wu respectively? If so then I don't suppose it's a HE.

  • When will they finally realise that although Wang Hedi looks pretty, he cannot act for shits? All he has is one single facial expression and he is unable to say his lines properly.
I pity Meng Ziyi if she gets stuck with such a weak ML only to be attacked and insulted by the crazies in his fandom on top of it.

    • I disagree Dylan ia a phenomenal actor, his microexpressions are everything. I've enjoyed all of his work. You can track his growth as an actor throughout his career.

    • He’s a better actor than the the robot in blossom who many of you swooned over. You lot just have to admit you don’t like him.

  • Both are serviceable as actors. Depends on the plot and director. Both will need to be dubbed. They will be a popular pair because they already have a CP from their variety show.

  • MZY's acting in Blossom was okay but the chemistry was explosive. The leading man took all the acting chop as his character does all the emotional stage. She does have moments of impressiveness. For example, the moments where she shown a strong emotional rage (when her Dad finally took her side). But for the most part her character shown much restrain and doesn't really elevate her acting (abide much better than her prior roles). She is a better actor than Dylan.

So I do see why they would want her in this drama.

  • Bring back the LBFAD voice actor for Dylan and we are in business! (I don’t at all mind his voice, it’s just very young, while he was lent gravitas in LBFAD which really helped him achieve the gravitas needed to pull off the xianxia style. I like Meng Ziyi since the Untamed and am so pleased she’s getting recognition.

    • I agree! I don't have a problem with his voice either, but for a serious role and not the parody that is Dafeng, he needs a boost from a voice actor with a deeper voice. The one in Love Between Fairy and Devil was excellent.

  • MZY career is really looking good rn as she join the battle for top 95🌸
with only YSX as the remaining major contender since ZLS career rn is in a limbo, Wang Churan is still struggling to make a hit drama and ZSE already out due to her tax evasion case.
For Dylan, his recent drama will likely end up as underwhelming and if his follow up drama will be another flop then ZLH, LYR, DX can immediately outrank him soon

  • It's more likely to be just a rumour. If there is choice, I doubt Wang He Di will choose such a story. Look at his recent works - a wuxia drama with the target male audience, an idenependent pseudo-documentary movie, a suspense detective drama and a sci-fi movie. Also, personally, I didn't like Till the end of the moon at all.

    • Yeah I agree, I didn’t like till the end of the moon at all either but I know Dylan and Menzyi have great chemistry on their reality shows so this is a win if they take roles.

  • A really nice pairing for me! I really enjoyed watching Blossom, and is currently enjoying Guardians of the Dafeng as well.
