Chinese Animated Movie Ne Zha 2 Sets Multiple Records in Tickets Sold and Viewer Reviews Becoming the Big Winner of the 2025 Lunar New Year Holiday Box Office
Okay, let’s just take a bow at the conquering hero of Chinese box office and maybe even setting total global box office records when its all said and done. Chinese home made animated movie Ne Zha 2, a sequel to Ne Zha released in 2019, has become a juggernaut that one simply wonders how many more records can be set. The movie was released on January 29th Lunar New Year day in a stacked release schedule and in 10 days has grossed US $1.286 billion ($8.7 billion RMB) on a budget of US $80 million and that is only on domestic box office alone. The movie is now the highest grossing film of 2025, the highest grossing film in China of all time, and the highest grossing film in a single territory surpassing Star Wars: The Force Awakens which took 165 days to hit the mark Ne Zha 2 hit in 10 days. Let that sink in. Ne Zha 2 has a 8.5 Douban score and a 8.2 IMDB score so its not just viewers loving the movie the reviews are also excellent. In a down market with theatergoers down this is the jolt needed to prove once again that if you make a top notch movie people will come. *cue Field of Dreams music*

Congratulations! I remember watching the first film and enjoying it. It’s hard to make a sequel that surpasses the first. I will definitely have to check it out once it’s available for me. I heard this movie helped revive a lot of theatres that were on the brink of bankruptcy. Everybody wins!
He’s an icon, he’s a legend, and he is the moment. Make him the face of Chanel and put him on the cover of Vogue.
