Top J-pop Star Ayumi Hamasaki’s Shanghai Concert Abruptly Cancelled Last Minute as China-Japan Political Spat Worsens
I can see not scheduling or postponing further out events but to cancel a big concert the day before the event is really bad political PR. But I guess the Chinese government doesn’t care as this Saturday’s big J-pop concert in Shanghai but top star Ayumi Hamasaki was abruptly cancelled the day before the event. Her side is not commenting but it’s clearly the fall out from the recent statements made by new Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae that if China took Taiwan by force it could constitute a survival level threat to Japan, and many took it as implying Japan would intervene by military force in that situation. China is furious and sentiments are split in Japan, with half in alignment but another half protesting her statements as unnecessarily worsening the relations between China and Japan and want her to take it back. In addition to Ayumi’s concert being cancelled, an amine event in Shanghai this week also saw a Japanese singer’s stage suddenly go dark and music stop midway through her performance and she was hustled off the stage. The Chinese government has also told its citizens to not visit Japan and there has been a spate of cancellations for Japanese hotels and flights are also being cancelled.
China should leave Taiwan and other neighboring countries ALONE. China has tons of domestic problems to tackle. China is debt ridden that is an existential threat for the CCP LOL. Also, why not taking care of the worst fire ever in the history of Hong Kong that already killed more than one hundred residents and more than 200 are still missing? Mind your own business first and stop coveting Taiwan Geezzz! lol
I’m not going to comment on the other stuff, but regarding the HK fires – I’m not really getting the link? Please don’t take the pain of my city to make a political point. The city is still grieving, it hasn’t even been a week since the fires, the government has already provided temporary housing to many who have lost their homes. Leave us alone and don’t try to drag this devastating situation into your political argument
I understand your pain. I wish HK recover soon. But ppl, specifically Chinese people, have to recognize what have been causing so many tragedies in your lives. The calamities were all man-made, thanks to the crappy system under CCP. Chinese officials don’t abide by the law they ask ordinary folks to follow instead. Chinese officials monitoring and controlling many safety measures in industries including construction sector are not up to par. It is what it is! As much as I feel sorry for what has been happening in your hometown, I have to be honest with my own opinions. Emotions and grief are not a valid tool to make your life better.
There is certainly a link between CCP’s aggressive agenda of foreign policies, specifically their idiotically unjustifiable claim of Taiwan’s sovereignty that has become a constant threat to regional stability and will aggravate global economies since Taiwan produces 70% chips in global supply and 90% of advanced chips you need in your phones and PC etc. Because of this greed to invade Taiwan to expand global influence and to take place of US as #1 superpower, CCP has been paying way way way way way way more attention to advancing weapons and military might, rather than focuses more on deteriorating domestic issues in all fronts. Using cheaply made construction material that came from China but does not meet building codes under British HK was the main cause for such catastrophic fires. This fatal fire is just one example.

She will insist HK is not part of China until tragedies like this occur and then she blames CCP for the construction company’s fault even though the building was built when HK was still under the British, and the Chinese government is already phasing out bamboo scaffolding.

Taiwan is Taiwan, and China is China. These are two separate countries. CCP has never ruled Taiwan in 1/100-th second of the human history. Rather, they are pro independence even though Taiwan has been de-facto independent since WWII. Maintaining status quo is equivalent to continue de-facto independence. Taiwanese are not Chinese except for a very low percent (around 10%) of population who are of Chinese descent fleeing China after WWII. More than 80% Taiwanese people are mix of different bloods including SE Asian indigenous tribes (similar to Filipinos), Europeans (Portuguese & Dutch mostly) Chinese, and Japanese. Ignorant to claim Taiwanese are Chinese! LOL.
Even most Taiwanese were Chinese, it’s fallible to use this as a base to claim Taiwan belongs to China. What about US belonging to UK, Canada part of UK, New Zealand, and Australia? In fact an official ROC government webpage describes the country as “a predominantly Chinese society”. I lived for 6 years in Kyoto, left in 2003, it has always been a major tourist destination, heard over-tourism there is pretty bad, recently. Japan is one of those focussing on introducing a tourism tax to counter/ameliorate it, so, this could be a ‘plus’, in that regard, I guess. Yes, selfishly, I’ll appreciate less other tourists when I return, hopefully in the next year or two.
