Despite Rumors of Dylan Wang Dropping Out of C-drama Adaptation of The Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage the Selected Leads Remain Him and Meng Zi Yi
I feel like Dylan Wang fans were trying to manifest this but alas the power of fandom to effect casting decisions isn’t nearly as common as the C-fans like to believe it to be. Last month there was movement on the C-drama adaptation of novel The Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage with new talks that the leads would be Dylan Wang and Meng Zi Yi. That led to a mutual revolt from both their fandoms, his dislike Meng Zi Yi for the role as her entire visual and aura playing the female lead and hers disliked both his acting and the rumors that the drama narrative would be changed to be male lead centric since Dyaln would be top billed. This uproar has been going on for a few weeks but recently there was a big rumor that due to his fandom’s revolt Dylan would be stepping down from this drama. But C-ent insiders are saying that is not true and Dylan is still cast, but it is true that the drama is in a bind of needing to start filming before year end within this month otherwise the license period would expire and the production would need to pay a new license fee for the rights to the novel.
I feel sorry for Meng Ziyi or any other actress they will cast in this drama.
Not only will she have to deal with a mangled script that gives the best scenes to the ML and one with very moderate acting skills to boot (similar to what happened to Peng Xiaoran in Love & Crown), but on top of that she will also be insulted and abused by Dylan’s toxic fandom.
All I can say is, “Run, girl, run fast while you still can!”

I read the novel and I think Dylan is ok as the ML but I am not really sure about Meng ZiYi. I don’t really feel the novel’s FL vibe with her but that doesn’t mean it’s ok to bully her just because of fandom stuff when they don’t even care about the novel as long as things go their way.
It’s one of the first c-novels I’ve ever read and got hooked on and I just hope the drama adaption will be good or at least watchable. It’s really tricky because it’s a rebirth story but with all this restrictions on how you can’t have a drama with this or that theme it will definitely be different from the source material.
I remember watching the first episode of the Legend of the Female General(because it’s from the same author) feeling confused because SHE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE BLIND in the earlier part when I read it. I don’t even know if they included FL being blind (maybe they can’t use the rebirth part and it will just make it more complicated) cos I was too lazy to continue watching it. I just hope this adaptation will not suffer the same fate.
So tricky. How are they going to show a petite 14 year old with the mind of her 36 or 38 year old capabilities? The 14 year old was supposed to be foolish and deliberately dumbed down by the Second and Third chambers. No, a short drama version is best because they’re at least allowed reincarnation. I love Yue YuTing and Wu’s version of Prisoner of Beauty. So tense. So sexy.
They did make her blind for a very short amount of time in LOTFG, but her Master cured her blindness with…don’t know how he managed that.
I miss watch Dylan in a drama, he may not be the a great actor but he has such strong screen presence. Eye candy for me. Watching him puts a smile on my face. But hearing his own voice…a different matter. I cannot get round his accent.
Please have someone else dub Dylan and tone down MZY’s makeup. Then I may give this drama a shot.
