iQiyi Airdrops Comedic Period C-drama How Dare You with Wang Chu Ran and Cheng Lei on February 6th
It’s here! Those waiting for a potential crack addicting C-drama may have one at hand with the airdrop of How Dare You on streaming platform iQiyi this Friday February 6th. Just in time for a weekend session and hopefully it’s as cute and entertaining as the previews looked. Wang Chu Ran plays a modern woman time traveled back to the past era of a fictional novel in the identity of the evil concubine to the evil emperor played by Cheng Lei who is himself a modern dude in the body of the ruler. The partner up to survive in the olden times and change the fates of their characters who end up dead in this story. Tang Xiao Tian and Hu Yi Xuan round out the main cast as the second leads and first impression reviews are off to a strong start.

I have to start this. The shorts look hilarious and I am a fan of Cheng Lei!
Episodes 1 and 2 were mid, but the drama finds its footing by episode 3 and is a delight to watch!!! The cast is really good as well!
I’m loving this! I’ve been in drama slump for sometimes now and I think it’s what I needed to get out of my funk. It’s fun, colorful and the actors are great and gorgeous.
So far, it was soooo worth the almost a year waiting since I watched the trailer.! I had fun watching it. Hopefully, next eps will continue the fun.
I’m only up to episode 2 so far. The production values aren’t high but the premise is interesting and funny so it’s still worth the watch.
It’s a big IP. I don’t think budget is too low either.
Budget is actually quite low. It’s an A level project
It’s a S-level drama and heavily promoted because it’s a popular IP.
I read somewhere that production is A level but iQiyi invested heavily in the promos after the teaser and trailer attracted a lot of attention so it was later upgraded to S level. So production remains low level even though promo has been intensive
Story definitely picks up on Episode 3 and so far the drama doesn’t deviate from the source material/novel that much (if not at all, really) including the donghua s1. I’ve read & seen both so I’m hyped ngl. Hopefully it’ll get even better.
Honestly, this feels low budget, like one of Cheng Lei’s old short dramas. Episode 1 was mid, and I hated the dubbing. But I see what you guys say about the show finding its footing after episode 3, so maybe I will stick around for a bit.
Soany flops these days. It’s actually concerning that both big and small long dramas are flopping all over the place, this included.
Is this the one with the main leads saying to each other:
“How are you?”
“I’m fine, thank you?”
Then squeal in delight at each other?
It’s more so emotional than squealing with delight. There’s tears in there eyes. But yes this is the drama.
Yes, probably different from all the short drama versions I’ve seen of this story last year. The different iterations I saw had the leads hugging and laughing hysterically and one had them continue with testing each other with singing APT uh huh uh huh. 😂
All I know is the short dramas are way ahead of the standard platforms because I’ve seen so many of the story arcs taken from web novellas already.
Couldn’t get through the first ep hmm. The humour is not my type. I may pick it up later on but most likely not lol. I dont feel like either lead suit the zany, off kilter vibe and humour the plot has. 🤷♀️
Slapstick aside, the story is shallow and boring. But I like both ML and FL. Specifically WCR’s acting in Are You the One looked effortless with good comedic timing. CL was attractive in his past dramas but has unflattering style in this one. lol. I only watched ep 1 and don’t feel motivated to check more. I have been watching several interesting Kdramas. Perhaps I’ll pick up this C drama again when nothing is left on my plate.
I watched 3 eps and had to drop. Too much childish slapstick that was tough for me to take court politics seriously.
