Tigers Sniff the Rose with Meng Zi Yi and Li Yun Rui Wrap Filming and Garners Strong Interest Early On Thanks to Reunion of the Leads
I do like reunions of leads from hit dramas but these two Meng Zi Yi and Li Yun Rui I have no feels about since I didn’t watch Blossom and neither ever appealed to me strongly before. But they are indeed hot thanks to that drama and this reunion in the period drama Tigers Sniff the Rose is getting more coverage than normal because of them. The drama wrapped recently after what felt like a longer shoot than normal but hopefully it means a better production in the end. There are some new stills out and I’m just not into Meng Zi Yi’s hairstyle in this drama at all, and Li Yun Rui looks so ordinary in how they styled him. It’s like the production made her look more extra and made him look more plain.
I still think the title is just so odd. The styling seems normal to me but it looks like a different era or class than their last drama they did together. If their styling was the same it would be redundant. Got to spice things up even if it is not to your preferences. In other words even their character role seems different to the last drama. Hope it works out.
Very excited for this since I watched Blossom and quite like this pairing. I think the styling is pretty on point. In the novel, LYR’s character is this humble scholar from a commoner background whereas MYR’s character is a royal princess who likes to wear fancy clothes. MYR’s character is also described as arrogant, unrestrained, and willful.
Too much powder or maybe the poster is too altered.
Last drama of these two worked wonders because the characters drew the best out of MZY and LYR. MZY’s role in that prior drama appeared stoic and shrewd, while LYR appeared forthright and gallant. The contrast made a perfect couple radiating an air of attraction when they confronted each other as enemies in the beginning and sizzling with hot chemistry when they turned into partners later on. I loved this OTP in the prior drama. I can rewatch them many times in some of the most dramatic scenes in Blossom.
Many can’t warm up to MZY for whatever the reasons. But sometimes bias might have led us to miss very good performances and stories. Taking myself for example, I’d never liked Kim Go-eun until her drama, the King:Eternal Monarch, where I finally got her charm and acting.
As to this new drama, I’m not sure if the reunion of this pair will work again. We’ll see. I personally like LYR in warrior image the best. His physical agility and horse-riding skills give an interesting contrast to his scholarly face. And he’s dang attractive as a powerful warrior. lol. Worth a mention particularly is his prosthetic makeup in grey hairs lol that I consider the best among the best sense of brokenness. I don’t mind him repeating that style. However, his scholarly style is more pedestrian. I’m perhaps anticipating Rebirth more than this one.

I watched Blossom and thought they had some chemistry in the beginning but it pattered out half way. Also I just could not get past Meng Ziyi’s look. Maybe if they just toned down her make up and made it look more realistic?? LR was pretty fantastic. Again, I thought his character was much more interesting in the beginning when he was fighting with the double swords.
Someone please take away meng ziyi’s lipstick or fire her makeup artist.
YES! Her makeup always looks way too heavy and modern to the point of being a distraction.
