Wuxia C-drama Generation to Generation with Zhou Yi Ran and Bao Shang En Confirmed to Air February 22nd on Tencent
Oh I am so sat for this and desperately need it to be good! C-drama Generation to Generation, with the super poetic Chinese title of 江湖夜雨十年灯 or A Decade of Nightscape Lights is now scheduled to drop next week on February 22nd. This Tencent wuxia drama has two of its up-and-coming young stars in the lead with Zhou Yi Ran and Bao Shang En being both age appropriate with each other and with the characters in the source novel. Cue family slaughtered traumatized young man with great wuxia powers and bright sunshine-y girl who attracts the broken ones like a moth to a flame, and likely they have entangled family conflict on top of it all. Of course they do, this is so my jam lol and honestly classic wuxia set up to the T. The stills and trailers have all been hitting the right feels for me so I can’t wait for a hopefully riveting and fast-paced period C-drama to take me into the end of February.

Preview for Generation to Generation:

Great
Looking forward to this!
This is up my jam too so I’m definitely going to check it out.
I will probably drop the drama since I have been trying hard to concentrate. But Zhou Yi Ran has acting talent, particularly in emotional scenes. Bao Shang En looks appealing, but her facial expressions are restricted (my first time seeing her). So far (I’m on episode 17), she only has three: smiling, wide-eyed, frowning. And the camera close-ups make it glaringly obvious.
Returning to Zhou Yiran, who has been acting for almost 10 years and is now on the rise, there are people who accuse him of “coming out of nowhere.” Lol. They kinda make me doubt the fabric of reality. Cause you would have one camp saying how some show/actor are popular/doing well and then there would be another camp saying how it’s all water army/bought support. If everyone knows about water armies, what’s the point of even buying them?😅
This actor went from minor roles to supporting roles to leading roles. It didn’t happen overnight.
almost every chinese actor is now accused of that. well zhou yiran used to be in a boy band called Yi’An Music Club when he was a teen. His group was neither known nor a sensation in China but they gained a following on social media. His former bandmates have also taken other paths in entertainment, such as Yan Haoxiang, who made re-debuted in TNT, one of the most popular bands in China now. He Luoluo, another member, is an actor as well; you probably saw him on The Wanted Detective.

The comments on TikTok about this drama reminded me of how annoying the fans of When I Fly Towards You are, and every time Zhou Yiran acts with someone other than Zhang Miao Yi, they start spamming the comment sections related to his new dramas or trying to discredit his new co-stars. It’s pathetic behavior and shows how lifeless they are. I witnessed something similar when The Untamed premiered. I loooved it. But some people can’t get over it and understand that they are actors and need to move on. Even today there are comments about Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo as a “ship.” It’s frustrating because they come out of nowhere.
Worst of all they’re fans of couples as a fetish, not of the drama itself, nor of the actors, because they don’t have the slightest idea when asked about them. I like Xiao Zhan and even when I open videos about his movies, the delusional shippers have to be “reminding” us with gifs or silly comments how “magical” WANGXIAN was in The Untamed.🤦♀️
The leads are serving face in this drama but I can’t connect with the plot. Everything is happening way too fast and there is no appropriate for the development.
