Deng Wei and Ai Mi Start Filming Guo Jing Ming Directed Fantasy C-drama Bai Yao Pu
Another C-drama has kicked off filming and it’s none other than the next Guo Jing Ming directed sure to be visually sumptuous piece. The drama is a fantasy story titled Bai Yao Pu (百妖谱 or Hundred Demon Manual) and has an animated series based on it already called Fairies Album. The drama will star Deng Wei and Ai Mi, who is now over 18 years old lol so at least the “she’s underaged” commentary no longer applies though the “she’s still so young” impression seems still valid. I’m neither super interested nor fully not interested in this, it feels like one of those wait and see how it turns out dramas.
She really is pretty and her acting is not bad. I know many seem to like deng Wei but I need to see him more because I just don’t see any appeal other than his good looks. Especially the last drama he did with the large ensemble recently. She is now of age and I hope she treads with wisdom from here on out.
Underage concerns aside, Ai Mi fits the lead role in idol dramas much better than many “adult” actresses who honestly look too old for the roles. I watched a few episodes of Key to the Phoenix Heart starring her and Neo Hou, and she definitely has that main character energy. She also looks the part for this specific role. Her acting isn’t bad. By comparison, Meng Ziyi, Wu Jinyan, and Bai Lu just look like aunties in their recent dramas. lol
Agree. I actually want to see more variety in casting for historical dramas and definitely more young blood. I like Ai Mi and Deng Enxi in their recent dramas.

Haha. I just speak of the facts. MZY did a decent job with her costar Li Yunrui in Blossom, not in BOP. I praised the ML, He Yu, in BOP though. But eventually I had to fast forward a lot of scenes since the writing fell off a cliff towards the end. The story looked stupid. lol
He can’t act at all but I wonder if he was the only person who would say yes to her.
She looks like a cosplayer here, with that much make-up.
I like her well enough in supporting roles, and watched half of Phoenix Heart, I would say her acting is good with all the right expressions, but somehow the voice is distractingly detached from her acting.
I don’t have a good impression of him.
I have a soft spot for Ai Mi so I hope she does well. I remember checking out Fairies Album back then and I did liked the anime, but we’ll see how the drama does because truthfully, I haven’t been into Xianxia lately.
I like Ai Mi. She is young, so there’s a lot of time for her to grow. She’s already a better actress than many traffic actors that are her senior, like YCY. I’d love to see her get paired up with other up and coming actors with potential like Lin Muran instead of people like HMH and DW.
Ai Mi is cute and I like her in general, but I don’t see spunky or plucky in her. And not brash, either. These qualities epitomizes Tao Yao (the main FL). It might be too soon to give that evaluation, since i haven’t seen her recent projects, but she didn’t give me that feel in her previous roles.
I can see Zhou Ye doing well for this role, as well as Zhao Miao Yi, Teresa Li and maybe even Dai Luwa.
Since Guo Jingming is known for creating dramas with sad ending, this anime is definitely up his alley. The substance is already there, so he better not eff up the show like he did previously
