Marry Him If You Dare Episode 9 Recap — 39 Comments

  1. OMG how can you be so fast! You must have jumped the episode the minute it aired and then jumped on the blog to write and post this XD Thanks a lot for the super fast recap! And yeah things are finally getting really good again~

  2. As a rule, we don’t care for calculating, plotting, sneaky and self-oriented people like Yoo Kyung, though she may have a kind heart…

    • Like seven said, who is “we” because I’m totally cheering for Yoo Kyung. I’m still very annoyed with Mirae’s intention in getting SeJoo (future and present). I think the last part that Yoo Kyuong read from the journal about how Mirae got jealous when she saw SeJoo with YooKyung after their wedding was announced, pretty much sums up how selfish FMR is really being. That is the reason why she targeted SeJoo from the beginning and unless they show that YooKyung did something horribly wrong in the future, as of right now I’m cheering for her and Shin to get their corresponding partners back.
      I loved this episode btw.

    • Please, speak for yourself. Yoo Kyung is the best freaking character on this show. If she was so self oriented, then why would she leave Se Joo and Mirae alone at the convenience store. She holds all the cards now, and is by far the most interesting character. I can’t wait to see what she does from here.

  3. Well, they had to start from somewhere, no? I’m glad K Drama love triangle getting started finally! Start your engine Shin because SJ is clearly going for to battle in… Oh for god sake this is supposed to be a rom-com and future MR makes things alot gloomy.. make it less complicated and this show will be nicer!

  4. As I am watching this drama, the story line is getting to be a little bit conflicting. I’m having a little bit of issues of future mi rea going around telling everyone that she’s future mi rea. Isn’t she not allow to let other people to know about her real identity. Plus there’s no purpose in telling other people who she is anyways.

  5. I think future Mirae is suppose to age 1 year each day she stays in the past, so why is she still causing commotions in the current timeline? *Sigh* The writer really needs to reveal what had happened in the future in order to understand this character’s existence in this timeline. I also hope that Shin fully understanding his shortcomings would propel him to figure out how he could protect Mi Rae and their love for each other, at least for their future’s sake. I do wish that Mi Rae would be more proactive at fighting against future MiRae’s ploys by letting Shin be aware of the consequences they would have to face in the future (as per future MiRae), instead of her being swayed back and forth by her manipulations. I mean, whatever future Mirae have done in the current timeline should have already altered the future no matter how small it was. As Mi Rae mentioned in the past episodes, the changes in Shin in the current timeline would have changed the result in the future. However, I do like the fact that Shin and Se Joo is about to race for Mi Rae heart. It is more interesting.

  6. thanks for the recap Captain! as soon as i woke up, i checked the playground and voila!!! really appreciate it.

i think as much as Mi Rae tries to avoid not to fall in love with Shin, there’s always that pull towards Shin, even if Shin doesnt say it out loud that he likes her too.

her doubts are normal given that threat of someone you love may die. i am looking forward to how the men will fight for Mi Rae but most of all i am waiting for the first real kiss in the drama. we are on episode 9! still no kissing, it better be worth it when it does happen!!!!!!!

  7. So close. This writer needs to hurry and reveal atleast some of the secrets. We were kinda getting there with this episode what with oppa finding out.
WE just need to know what it is.
I’m getting the feeling the other hong sister was the one who really gave us that breakneck pacing in K2H with the reveals

    • I agree. This episode picked up a bit, but I still felt bored for almost half of it. We need to know why she wants to break them already. And that guy from the future is practically pointless.

  8. Thanks so much for the recaps!

When Shin got a text message from Future Mirae, did anyone catch what he saved her number as?

I always love Kim Shin’s scene when he’s at his home – he looks more boyish with that kind of hair style. Adorable! By the way, what do the two words from the dictionary mean?

  9. “It’s shin slow and steady character development that carries the narrative core of this drama”

I cant agree with you more Koala. Although this is Mirae’s Choice, but I felt like this drama is more about Shin’s progress from a straight-laced principled dude, to one with compassion who uses his principles for good. His changes are much more interesting to watch than Mirae tbh.

  10. really interesting episode from now and uncover all the secrets that are revealed by ajumma back from the future, and now everything finally uncover our tracks will be able to choose a path. I’m actually all in this drama,

  11. I can’t agree with you more Koala.
I actually found Ep 7 & 8 quite all right (certainly more engaging than the Heirs), nothing to shout about but I was still fully invested in the drama. So this Ep 9 was better and I really hope it is finally gaining the momentum.

How much do I love Shin (and LDG), and I hope the Mirae with new hairstyle might be the changed Mirae who is more confident and fighting for and with her love and making sure that things do not turn out the way Future Mirae had experienced.

Having loved (and still love) TK2H to pieces, I’m wondering which of the Hong Sisters wrote the emotional core and character development that was central to TK2H and gave it such heart and is she the one who now writes MHIYD? Or is it her sister?

I wonder if MHIYD would turn out much better if both of them wrote the script like they did with TK2H?
Anyway, I’m enjoying MHIYD a lot, though I wished JYH’s fans in various forums would be less delusional (Se Joo is 2nd male lead, period)… Well to each’s her/his own.

    • Not everyone who roots for him has to be delusional. I don’t know why people keep on insinuating these arguments. The character he’s playing has its own merits and the boy is so far doing a great job at it. Can’t people, including his fans, root for that without having to be called “delusional”? Seriously, stop picking on him or his fans just because he’s second lead. I was never informed that there was a rule that people can’t root for a second lead more than the male lead.

      • I think the OP means that it’s delusional to actually entertain the idea that SJ will get the girl, not that it’s delusional to appreciate his character. He was never going to win, period. It’s just not how the story goes.

      • totally agree with you lexie, i met watchers of this drama seeing jyh first time acting and they are liking him. they are watchers who admitted not only in this drama but other dramas that have second lead syndrome, even people who posted here admitted that. i just roll my eyes to those generalizing people delusionals just because someone is liking the second lead not the main. i

      • Thanks Rina, exactly what I intended when I wrote “delusional”.

And my post was not meant to be offensive, sorry if it came out that way. In any case, I do not dislike JYH or even Se Joo the character and JYH is acting fine as Se Joo. But the way the story is developing right now, I simply do not see how JYH will win Mirae’s heart. But I’m all for being surprised and wouldn’t mind if the OTP turned out to be Mirae-Se Joo in the end, IF the writer can write it in convincingly. But at this point on the way the story is developing, to me at least, Shin-Mirae is still the OTP.

    • MadQueen I guess I haven’t even noticed THAT many people still shipping Mirae and Seju? I feel like the writer is pushing it while the rest of us watching have fully jumped on board the SJ/YK train. Most Seju fans are just waiting for that couple to happen

And 2nd male lead syndrome is pretty much a classic stereotype of kdramas – it’s nothing new here.

    • Yeah Mirae being confident and not letting herself be manipulated by people Future Mirae and Oppa, Se Joo would do wonders for this series.

I want some honest, realness right now. The last eps have been everyone playing with Mirae like she is a prize to win. FMR, now Oppa, Se Joo who knows he doesnt have a chance against Shin.

  12. OMG! Love the glare they both gave at the end. But I am still confused in why FMR is still meddling with everyone, and now Oppa is involved. I am also happy that YK is also getting her game on. Can’t wait for tomorrow! Thanks for the recap Ms Koala. You’re still the best!

  13. This was the first episode I thought Mirae and Seju would work. Not for any good reasons, but they’d still work. She’s so emotionally needy and he seems willing to say all the right things to her and has the money to support her through everything so hey, why not. Of course, she’d turn into FMR who went from relying on one guy to another, but it could work better than Shin did I suppose.

I do seriously wish there were any feelings between Shin and YK, since I’d just give up on Mirae all together and move on to her… I’m glad we are finally getting the full truth out. I don’t think Oppa would react like he did if he were the one dying, so I do think the story at the beginning is pretty obviously foreshadowing what happened to Shin and Mirae.

  14. Thanks for the recap. As a character, I find Yoo Kyeong more interesting than Mi Rae and Future Mi Rae combined. This is the first time in a YEH drama, that the 2nd female lead is better than the main character. I put it down to writing and also HCA’s bundle of charm and sass all rolled into one.

We are seeing glimpses of Mi Rae’s basic character which somehow shows how Mi Rae ended up like Future Mi Rae. Wish Mi Rae would make up her mind!

  15. My favorite characters of this drama are Shin and Yoo Kyung. I’m so glad that both of them slowly discovered the Ahjummah Na Mi Rae’s manipulative plots and fight back. I hope both of them will have their happy endings.

  16. I just really like this drama despite it’s flaws 😀 it gives me dreamy feelings, it’s light to watch, with the ajummas scenes toned down a bit it’s way better, just keep it this way focusing on the characters development! about the time traveling thing I didn’t really expecting much so I’m not that much disappointed! I thought they would go this direction! it’s a rom-com not a mystery or thriller and in the end it’s a korean drama 😀 it’s not fringe or doctor who lol 😀 though I still hope the writer surprise me.
my OTP *sigh* they are breaking my heart just get together already! I really liked the new OST by Park Hyo Shin very suitable to them, I just LOVE PHS’s voice, its warm and filled with emotions! sooo good! and lets not talk about the OST of the other show cough*Heirs*cough.
anyway I just enjoy this drama more than Heirs! I wait for this drama after watching the Secret love which I’m currently addicted to.

  17. Oppa actually had the common sense to ask for a dna test. Some viewers started to have doubt that old Mi Rae was impersonating young Mi Rae.

I wish we knew what happened in the future. We’re already past the halfway point, but not much has been revealed.

  18. Thanks for the recap.. I’m thinking that maybe Shin will die protecting Mi Rae in the end, that’s why the future Mi Rae goes back to 2013 and planned to change their fate. I’m imagining the story would be like all she (future Mi Rae) wants to do is protect Shin from his fate and herself from being too messed up after Shin was gone. It’s just a guess and even though it’s really impossible to occur still maybe there is a chance it will happen. I’m really getting curious what really happened in the future.

  19. Frankly after this ep of seeing Shin doing the best he can for Mirae by staying away and Mirae being so unsure of what she wants and cant decide. I dont think right now she deserves a man like Shin. Frankly he is too good for her right now. She wants to be coddled by Se Joo so called friend instead of waking up to what she really wants.

Mirae is really the least interesting character of the leads. In this ep she is played, controlled by whole three people. Oppa telling her where to work and keeping Shin away. Future Mirae doing her usual stop Shin thing and now even Se Joo using future Mirae to have a fake dinner date with Mirae.

Decide for yourself Mirae for godsake just like Shin said. Stop being needy. A good drama so far weakened by the heroine sheesh….

  20. Finally this episode made me feel bad for Kim Shin, i could feel his pain. On Mirae said i still can’t with her… i actually thought this was more like “Kim Shin’s Choice” since the subway episode, writer placed mmore focus in his character developed than Mirae’s, which is really frustrating. Se Joo and Yookyung remain awesome for me, their flaws are very relatable…and Future Mirae remains annoying as hell, she needs to go ASP.

    • Its not Mirae fault that the series isnt about her right now. Her growth has been stopped by Future Mirae. All the hate, dislike we have for future Mirae is also connected how we dont feel much for present Mirae.

It cant be the story about her choice when she has no confidence, no drive outside her work that she lets Se Joo doubt her feelings and she has let Future Mirae make Shin look like he will destroy her life. I was angry at her in this ep when she wanted him to have a stay if she is gonna stay at YBS, in his life. How can she ask that when she wont even kiss him or be honest about her feelings of “bad future fate” come on…..

  21. random thought, and it’s really more a fun nonsensical speculation than a result of actual thought process, but what if FMR is actually ….. Shin from the future?!?

Actual FMR commits suicide/is in hospital fighting for life etc due to difficult home situation arising from Shin’s stubberness.. so Shin feels remorseful, decides she wouldn’t’ve been in this place if he hadn’t married her, & sets off on this mission.. that’s why he knows his past self so well.. that’s why he’s able to be so mean and cruel to his past self.. why FMR dresses so immaculately.. and noone in the drama is pointing out to similarity btwn FMR & PMR ( i mean in RL the actresses don’t look alike, but within the drama logic, to the other characters, shouldn’t they atleast find some features similar, like, ‘is that ur mom/aunt/sister?’ type queries?)..

…. why he has to carry a frigging DIARY to know Mirae’s thoughts and memories!…!

    just fr fun! 😀
