So while all the K-drama attention this spring started on Queen of Tears and after it ended moved to Lovely Runner, we now have the first buzzy hit of the start of summer. Small cable network drama Crash premiered to around 2% ratings in mid-May and 2/3rds through its run has more than doubled to 5.870%. It’s a brisk 12-episodes so four more left but word of mouth has been strong as reflected by the steadily increasing ratings, and even more impressive is that Crash is now the second highest rated drama on ENA after Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Now it’s nowhere near breaking that rating or even getting close but Crash felt like there was zero talk, buzz, or promotion when it premiered and is simply gaining traction because it’s a good drama. The stars are Lee Min Ki, Kwak Sun Young, and Heo Sung Tae with the story set in the traffic investigation unit of the police force. The vibe I get from the drama stills is very Train with all the blues and whites contrast with the warm oranges and beige. I’m planning to check this out now so sharing an underdog success story for those interested.
