So this idea feels like a fan service mixed with an attempt to wring just a little bit more money out of a smallish film. Reportedly the production company of the K-movie remake of Soulmate, the award winning C-movie of the same name, is planning to re-release of the 2023 film in theaters. The reason is of course the sudden stratospheric rise to fame of male lead Byun Woo Seok, who really was there in the movie as the McGuffin as was the male lead in the original movie. The story revolves around the two polar opposite best friends and soulmates which in the K-version was played by Kim Da Mi and Jeon So Nee. I didn’t hear the K-version was bad but it always felt like an indie movie and received that level of box office when it premiered last year. If it can get a second go-around and more K-viewers check out this movie and it’s lovely story then it’s a worth it.

I have high hopes for tvN‘s next Mon-Tues drama, the sageuk Our Blooming Youth, simply with the soon to end The Interest of Love I’ll need another weekday drama to follow along with. The routine is comforting for me as … Continue reading
I remember the rise of the fusion youth sageuk in the early 2010’s, I would probably pin it around The Moon Embraces the Sun and perhaps foreshadowed by Dong Yi. The latter had a male lead king in his thirties … Continue reading
So the K-version of Chinese movie Soulmate (Qi Yue Yu An Sheng – the names of the two female leads) will also be titled Soulmate making for a easier connection. The movie earlier this month got its approval permit and … Continue reading
Time is rounding the corner into the end of January (first lunar new year yay!) which means new sageuk Our Blooming Youth premiering on February 6th will be here before you know it. The new posters give me throwback vibes … Continue reading
It’s a bit odd that such a high profile C-movie getting a K-version adaptation just went into production and off the radar. In 2020 it was announced that Soulmate (Qi Yue Yu An Sheng) was getting a K-adaptation starring Kim … Continue reading
The upcoming tvN sageuk Our Blooming Youth remains one of my more anticipated early 2023 K-dramas, a combination of the leads and the story being adapted/inspired from the C-novel The Golden Hairpin. You have a brilliantly smart female lead cross-dressing … Continue reading

The collateral damage of the Wu Yi Fan (Kris Wu) criminal allegations and scandal last year was that the highly anticipated C-drama adaptation of The Golden Hairpin was likely never to see the light of day despite being fully filmed. … Continue reading
On one hand this drama has a lot at stake but then perhaps it has nothing at all. Filming has wrapped for K-drama Youth, Climb the Barrier which is the literal title and I’m sure there will be a much … Continue reading
I know this drama will get a proper English title eventually but it’s weird to keep calling it Youth, Climb the Barrier because it has like, nothing to recommend what it’s about. I’m talking about the K-drama adaptation of the … Continue reading
Okay, I need an official name for this drama because there are so many translations. Filming has commenced for upcoming sageuk drama Youth, Glancing at the Moon (Youth, Climbing Over the Wall) which less important than what the title means … Continue reading
Okay, there’s a lot to unpack here. Despite the K-netizens going on an anti-Chinese culture in K-dramas attack earlier this year which played one part in the cancellation of Joseon Exorcist and concerns over Chinese PPL in K-dramas so some … Continue reading
