
The heart and soul of upcoming Apple TV+ drama series Pachinko is female lead Sunja, born in Korea before it became North and South, moved to Japan, and watched as her kids and grandkids explored further in the world including to the US. It’s broader than being called a K-drama though it has been associated with such especially after the K-drama worldwide expansion in the last two years primarily due to Netflix making a concerted investment and carrying so many K-drama on its platform. Apple TV+ released the full 2 minute plus trailer today and it’s glorious in the emotive breadth, taking viewers across the timeline of Sunja’s life and the people who come in and out of it. It reminds me of Chinese movie To Live and Japanese dorama Ashin, so bring your tissues and get ready to be touched deep inside and marvel at the tenacity of humans to weather the slings and arrows, valleys and peaks of life.
