Jang Geun Seok’s First Single “Let Me Cry” Drops in Japan — 56 Comments

  1. I agree with your comments. I do like the song (I’d like it better in Korean, so I hope someday the Korean version will drop), but I have to say I prefer songs like I Will Promise You and My Precious because they exploit the breathy, sexy quality of his crooning. ^_~

    • I agree with u estel, I much prefer hearing him sing in Korean…I am not fluent in both languages but I just like the way the Korean language sounds much better than the Japanese language…idk maybe I’m biased due to all the Kdramas I watch =)

    • same w/you, my fav. JGS songs so fa are My Precious and I Will Promise You…but LET ME CRY also prove this guy have SO MANY talent, even in Japan Rock song-style he gave the best he had.. is there any he can’t do ?????

  2. i listened a shorter and noisy version last night, and the first thing i though about when i woke up this morning was like: let me cry let me cry….
i just can’t get it out of my head!!! i love him singing ballads but this style (like take care my bus is so adictive!!!!)
i hope it will be a hit not only in japan… so excited, can’t wait to buy the cd (the 2 edition just to help his sales!!!!)
thanks for the complete version!!!! 😀

  3. With the title, “Let me Cry” I was totally expecting a ballad. Not that the song isn’t good…I actually like the beat and the electric guitar/rockish vibe to it. And of course I love my beloved Keunsuk’s voice…very sexy and soulfoul in every pitch and note. But I’m still looking forward to hearing a ballad…and soon please! His voice is showcased sooo much better in ballads!

  4. Happy Friday Captain ockoala! 🙂

Thank you for this news. ^_^ I too prefer JGS singing ballad songs. The first song I heard him sing and admired was “Can you hear me?” from BV. But this first single ain’t bad. It effectively showcases the “rocker” in him, which obviously would draw the younger demographic . Perhaps rock music is JGS’ preferred music. 😉
Well, Good Luck to JGS! May he have many HIT singles and albums!

P.S. Thanks much for the banner today. Love it! ^_^

  5. It may be because I’ve been in a bit of a melancholy funk lately, but I’m not really feeling this. I’ll give it a listen again in a while and see if it grows on me, though I really want something slow and heartfelt and ballad-y. I think finals are getting to me if I’ve got Fiona Apple on a loop.

In the meantime, though, I think I’ll listen to Kanye’s tweets set to classical music–that will forever make me laugh.

  6. I think you’re right that his voice isn’t nearly as showcased as it could be. At points he’s even kind of buried behind the instruments, which is really a pity. He’s got an incredible voice, richly warm with a nice range. I mean, I can pick out the english refrain, but the rest of the time I can’t even make out which language he’s singing. (I had expected Korean, but someone else’s comment makes me wonder if it’s Japanese?)

Do you know if he’s also the songwriter? I’ve not seen anything that indicates whether he also has composer or lyrical skills.

    • I agree with you. His voice is drowned out except for Let me cry and I can barely make out some Japanese sounding words. I am a fan of Gackt and other Japanese rockers but the guitar doesn’t usually drown them. This one song is a disservice to his vocal talent. I hope the other ones are better. I Will Promise You was his best as far as I am concerned. It still makes me cry.

Note: That picture of him in white. OMG HE IS BEAUTIFUL!!!

  7. i couldn’t tell if he was singing in japanese or koren (think it’s the audio in this clip- but i like pop rock.) but sounds good.. JGS music idol rocking his black eyeliner from his YAB days. Haha

  8. I can barely make out his voice. Was this, by any chance, recorded in a bathroom, like in Ellen’s Bathroom Concert Series? Kidding. =)

It made me want to search my blog to find the first song that made me truly in love with JGS’ voice. He took my breath away with his version of Can You Hear Me from the Beethoven Virus OST but this one made me appreciate his voice more. The musical director or whoever worked with them in this song successfully assigned the right lines for JGS’ voice range.

He hasn’t that strong a voice so it’s always safe to carefully choose songs. Professional training should help a lot to correct imperfections. I’m hoping for a ballad or anything more subdued, anything that highlights his voice more than the accompanying music.

How is it possible to look so hot even when recording a song? Explain it to me.

    • Thanks @bops for sharing this video. 🙂 Wow, love the song! When did they record it? Who are those 2 other guys?! *^_^*

      • Bashful, they were Tim and Son Ho Young. The song title is We can make it. Google: Wee Band. It was for some education support or something 🙂 So proud of him!

      • Thanks F1968! 🙂 Ok, will do check out “Wee Band”…Indeed, that’s very admirable of them to collaborate on the song for Education…BTW, I read in the G2 forum you are going to JGS Fan meeting. How lucky! ^_^ Have lots of fun and please bring juicy info and pics. 😉 Have a good weekend!

      • Bashful, yes, yes, yes!!!! April 23rd can’t come sooner…if only I can fast-forward the days… I will try to give an account ok! Though from where I sit, I can’t give up close and personal details….hehehe!

If you love the above song, do check another lovely song he sang, also for a good cause: Dreams, giving them wings. There was another version sung by Insooni, which of course is fantastic given her powerful voice.

      • Thanks! This is the first time I heard this. I have downloaded a lot of his songs but not this one.

      • You are most welcome, M3Lover! 😉

more than happy to share anything on JGS, and MGY for that matter, with everyone here 😉

      • Thanks much KDL and F1968! 🙂

I too liked JGS’ voice even more when he sang “Dreams, Giving Them Wings”. ^_^ Thanks again for sharing this song and video link. 🙂

      • you are most welcome, dear Bashful 😉

and i can’t agree with you more on how lovely JGS sounds singing the Dreams song….swooooon… 😉

      • I personally love this song as the lyrics are very meaningful. I’ve listened to it during M3 days..well, couldn’t help but to search for most of JGS’s songs on YT just curious who is he actually..a singer or actor or both? Only then I believe that JGS is multi-talented alongside with MGY.

  9. Bops, I SO LOVE THAT SONG!! it was one of my favorite, and he looked so gorgeous!

I love another one: Dreams, giving them wings:

I was hoping he would do the song sung by Insooni, Goose’s Dream but I doubt he could carry it off. I wanted to suggest for us to spazz all the songs that he sings that each of us have in our collection (with ulterior motive that I may have missed any, lol!)

Oh, have you guys seen the one he performed on MKMF 2007 where he was a Drag? I’m not sure if this works, but I’ll try give it a shot with this link:

    • Glad you agree. I realized I’m obsessed with JGS after I saw that on YouTube. And I don’t know about you guys but I love Just Drag! There’s something about that song and JGS in the MV that made me love him more and more.

I’ve long come to terms with the fact that he can’t dance. He won’t be able to perform alongside Rain and not appear like a grade schooler imitating his dance instructor; or Se7en, that dude can annihilate anyone on the dance floor. JGS better stick to things he’s good at and use every resources available to him to continue to improve.

I’ve seen MGY dance and even if she tutor him every day, he can never dance as effortlessly as she does. The lady is awesome. She should be in Dancing With The Stars. =)

But I still love JGS. I hear him sing and I smile. He’s like my own personal brand of heroin. Erm, Edward? Lol.

  10. Thank you ms. ockoala! wow…didnt knw he’s gonna sing in japanese. his pronunciation is really good! but…i personally favor the k-pop more than j-pop. this song is not bad but kinda feel heard it in somewhere before. maybe jp taste? i too prefer his ballad but for the first single, ballad might be little weak. so not bad, not bad. and his singing tech is really improving song by song. Good job JKS!

  11. WOW i didn´t expect it at all! i was waiting a ballad!
but it´s not bad! i like to hear him in ballads more! i like his voice for that type of songS! i will wait 4 u my baby!

  12. I like this song. The begining is interesting ( some old musical instrument?). This is his song I believe. And this is a kind of music he prefers. I remember that he said once that he really wanted to live the life of KMG (M3). Acting as KMG made him happy. The quality of the sound is bad, but I think that this is because it is from radio show.

  13. I love it!! I also thought it would be a ballad, but I love this. Can’t get the song out of my head ^.^

As for the quality, the album is due out on March 23. The song was broadcast earlier through the radio yesterday and the fans recorded it. So it also depends on the quality of the recording/recorder. I think we’d need to listen to the CD to judge the song fully ^^

Always thanks to Ockoala for providing this nice place for discussion. Can’t wait for the album to be out (^o^)/

  14. i agree with you, dear Captain, that i much prefer JGS singing quiet, sweet, mellow songs…

as for this song, his distinctive voice seems to be overpowered/drowned out by the music…

i believe if the volume of the music is toned down a bit, we can hear more of his voice…

so, i am not won over yet…i will have to wait for his other songs in the debut album…
but i am confident he will not disappoint, so i am looking forward to the rest of the songs…

    • sorry M3Lover, after listening to it, although i can make out his voice a little better, i still find JGS’s voice largely being drowned out by the loud music…

      • Yup, not the same when he’s singing ballad but rock music are like that more on the instrument sounds. I would say the song is the type Kang Myu Gyul will sing/perform. Let us wait when the album comes out & hear the other tracks….

      • yes, i agree with you – rock music do have overpowering sounds that could easily drown out a singer’s voice…unless the singer’s voice is more powerful, which brings me to JGS’s voice, which IMHO is not powerful enough to stand out against powerful rock music but more suited to soft, sweet, mellow and ballad-like music… 😉

      • yeah, i agree with you 😉

so much love for the Geun-Geun couple to diligently put together such lovely pics of the lovely couple 😉

  15. The song could pass for an anime OST… but I like OSTs from various anime series, and I love JGS so much (I already feel like I’m cheating on my boyfriend XD) so he can do no wrong for me. (biased much?) 😉

Thanks, Captain Koala! This was such a treat.
    Aishite imasu! 🙂

  16. i think the song is quite interesting.. it’s more or less like Butakhae My Bus type.. love it.. but I do hope there are ballad songs in the album as well..

  17. right now i’ve heard the song quite a lot (and never get tired of it) and every time i hear it i love it more. perhaps is that i always love rock style (when i was a teen guns n roses was my fav band). in fact i think happy life and m3 are the best of jgs, though i love his ballads (love BV song and you’re beautiful pop), and if he sing ‘london bridge is fallin down’ or ‘happy birthday’ i would say it’s the best song too…

  18. Hi all, this is the new song by JKS, Bye bye bye released last night in Japan. However, it is not good quality and the song was partially drowned into the background as the DJ spoke of the disaster which hit Japan yesterday. Prayers to Japan and heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their loved ones…

  19. well, i think so too
he’s better in ballad songs, his voice is warm and touch full
but “let me cry” ain’t bad. it is good enough and easy on ears.
i can remember how the melodies go, right after my first hearing.
“Let me cry” proves that jang geun suk oppa is really a talented artist, he can sing in Japanese also. and he can interpret his music style not only in ballad but also pop rock
can’t wait your next great songs, oppa….!!!!
