Looks like Gong Yoo still isn’t coming back to K-dramas anytime soon, what with him confirming his casting in another K-movie that is set to start filming next month in October. The main cast is secured for famed Korean director Kim Jee Woon‘s upcoming big-budget period movie Secret Agent. Kim Jee Woon is in many ways even more famous that the impressive cast he rounded up for this movie, having directed blockbuster hits like The Tale of Two Sisters, The Good, The Bad, The Weird, and I Saw the Devil.
Reuniting with Director Kim will be his leading man from TGTBTW Song Kang Ho, who is paired up with younger leading man Gong Yoo for this foray. Lucky in casting Han Ji Min has landed the leading lady role while Shin Sung Rok is reportedly in as well. Recent colonial era period movie Assassination did gangbusters business at the box office so hopefully the same interest is there when Secret Agent premieres next year in 2016. This movie is a joint venture between Director Kim’s production company and Warner Brothers, which is actually footing the entire 10 billion won budget for filming. Wowsers.
The synopsis of Secret Agent is less James Bond 007 and more freedom fighter, as the story is set during the Japanese occupation era of Korea and centers around a violence-based resistance group fighting to free Korea from its imperial rule.

This sounds great! Song Kang Ho and Gong Yoo! Made my day!
Excited originally but not so much after knowing that Han Ji Min is in it. I just do not understand her popularity. I've never been impressed with her acting and God forbid, PADAM PADAM. Not entirely her fault. But that was awful, in more ways than one!
After her last acting gig in "Hyde", I really dislike her even more. With such versatile and much more experienced actors cast for this movie, it's a bit surprising to have Han Ji Min as the leading lady. Surely there are way better actress with better acting chops to take her spot (i.e. Jeon Do Yeon and Yang Jin Sung). Yang Jin Sung nailed her role in "Bride of the Century". She completely blew me away when I found out that she played both characters. I know she's new but at least she is better than Han Ji Min.
I like Yang Jin Sung too. Unfortunately, it'll be a long while until she reaches Han Ji Min's level of recognition. :\
sorry girl! can't blame Korean people how much they love HJM. producers are looking for 'marketable actresses' and Warner Brothers made the right choose. The movie is a hit.
all her movies and her Cain and Abel made me understand her popularity. Don't be so shallow in understanding one's ability if you haven't seen all the actors work. Peace be with you!
wowers indeed! Warner Brothers >.< the movie needs to do great Fighting Gong Yoo!
Ohhh.I miss Gong Yoo oppa.
Hope he can back to K-Drama land soon.
if only the leading lady is Jun Ji Hyun, then this movie will definitely be perfect! LOL
i miss Gong Yoo in dramaland but acting with song kang ho and director kim jee woon is great opportunity for him
So excited for this movie ~ esp Jimin is part of it and all the great actors. Haven't read the sypnosis but it would be great if she play femme fatale character. Interested to see GY and HJM chemistry.
gong yoo need to come back to drama land.
Han Ji Min started as the young Song Hye Gyo in All In and has been a leading lady for Hallyu stars like Lee Seo Jin in Il San, Kang Ji Hwan in Capital Scandal, So Ji Sub in Cain and Abel, Jung Woo Sung in Padam Padam, Hyun Bin in Hyde, Jekyll and Me and Uhm Tae Woong in Resurrection. I didn't watched Hyde, Jekyll and me because I dislike her red hair but I liked most of her dramas.
Awesome cast! Can't wait!
The movie is a hit! And I'm so proud of these people.
