MBC Sageuk The Forbidden Marriage with Kim Young Dae and Park Joo Hyun Continue to Release Woefully Underwhelming Posters and Promos

Normally I say expect the worse so one can hopefully get anything better than that and be happily surprised. But the promos for upcoming MBC sageuk drama The Forbidden Marriage have been just that bad that I’m happy none of my faves are in it. Half the problem is the leads though, with Kim Young Dae wasting an intriguing potential in Extraordinary You and being just bad all around in any leading role since then and here he can’t even have a proper Crown Prince posture that I want to jerk his shoulder back and wack his legs with a long ruler to make him stand up straight! Park Joo Hyun is a good actress but lacking in leading lady charisma, unfortunate for her but playing a swindler type of character she’s got to be adorably sly, emphasis on adorable. The stupid poster above doesn’t help, like WTF is that for a sageuk drama and even a fusion one should at least avoid the juvenile tendencies. I hate to rag on a drama before airing but so far MBC is doing a swell job of advertising in the worst way.

  2. Okay, the promo poster may be boring af.
But I loved KYD in Sh**ting Star. Imho his acting there was great.

Even if most of the time I‘m not a fan of Sageuk dramas, but the cast looks promising. Perhaps I’ll give it a try.

  3. I liked Kim Young-Dae in Shooting Star, but I’m not convinced by him as a King. Park Joo-Hyun wasn’t lucky in her choices but she’s pretty good and funny.

  4. while it’s true that the FL might not have the charm as a main lead yet, it’s truly embarrassing for the ML cuz this isn’t his first time headlining a drama.

The one who actually got no charm for sure is the ML

    • I don’t think it’s meant to be in the same genre as Red Sleeve?

It’s basically fluffy youth sageuk (really just costume drama) sprinkled with tongue-in-cheek anachronisms, like 100 Days My Prince, My Sassy Girl, Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency, Joseon Psychiatrist, Royal Inspector and Joy, etc. I don’t think anyone expects it to be a hit. Just needs to not put them in the red financially.

The video preview doesn’t look too bad. About what I expect for this type of drama. The posters are pretty terrible. They could have taken any cover from the webtoon and just copy the pose and layout, but didn’t. These promo images sort of scream “she’s harassing him” to me. Still, there have been dramas with bad promos and posters who end up doing well i.e. A Business Proposal

    • Exactly, whoever read the webtoon knows this is a fluffy drama and not a serious one and tbh I like both the cast leads like they’d suit the humour actually
