So I missed the first preview for A Journey to Love when it came out recently but watching it now for the first time is actually better timing. It gives off My Journey to You vibes (a good thing!) and I’m also super sad that Liu Yu Ning‘s other drama Prisoner of Beauty is likely kaput to never see the light of broadcast day. My Journey to Love pairs him with Liu Shi Shi in a female-centric drama that nonetheless feels like the male lead holds his own in story and strong character, unlike recent Legend of Anle where the male lead was just THERE and had one main issue. The two leads look great onscreen together and individually in the preview and honestly just air this one too before the large sprawling supporting cast mayhap suddenly do something wrong.

Ghosh I had been so excited for Prisoner of Beauty. It had looked amazing TT_TT It had even received its distribution license just a couple of days back and then BOOM! Poor Liu Yuning, he had been really excited for it. I am so disappointed that I might actually go and read the novel for this one.
The source novel is great, and has lots of juicy stuff that I can't imagine they would/could have adapted to the screen anyway, given the insanely diverse and complicated censorship rules. Like, I'd even be surprised if they kept the backbone of the novel, namely our ambitious warlord hero forging a bloody path of conquering territory and eventually unifying the land with him as the emperor and founder of a new dynasty. I mean, more likely they'd have the drama version turn him into a toothless loyal subject who stills the flames of rebellion and instead supports the baby of the last useless emperor onto the throne (see Rebel Princess).
That said, I do regret very much that Prisoner of Beauty likely won't see the light of day now. I was looking very much forward to the drama, hoping that maybe, just maybe, it would surprise me by sticking to the source novel more than anticipated and therefore be awesome.
Oh this drama isn't on my list but your post made me go look for the novel. I'm going to read it.
I'm one that tends to enjoy and prefer novels more, in comparison to their drama adaptations. Haha
Liu Shishi, Cheng Yi and Luo Yunxi are all beautiful in period shows. Their fighting scenes are so beautifully executed.
Yes, a man of Liu Yuning's height would certainly not be recognized in Ancient China wearing a face cover.
Definitely super excitex for thus pairing and drama. Please drop any day now!
