C-actor Cheng Yi’s First Agency Sues Him for Compensation for Using His Stage Name

Well this is a dumbass lawsuit, in both legal standing and public perception. C-actor Cheng Yi‘s old agency has sued him for compensation for using his stage name. His birth name is Fu Shi Qi and Cheng Yi is obviously the name he’s used as an actor. Even if his old agency has someone who helped pick his stage name with him, or even gave it to him, it was Cheng Yi who made the name/recognition worth something through his acting career so suing now for IP rights is like grasping at straws. Cheng Yi’s current agency is fully in support of defending him and issued a scathing legal response that the contract was terminated in 2015 and this lawsuit is meritless. I dunno, it gives Cheng Yi good publicity in a twist of irony because now the public just feels bad for him.

  • You can all feel it's stupid but actually it depends on what the original contract was. If a stipulation about his stage name existed, he is going to have to cut a deal, no matter how dumb it sounds. If it didn't, then it's a waste of money for the ex agency.

Law doesn't care about what someone may think is silly or important.

  • In the USA it's about trademark. Not sure what's in China. Did his old agency trademark that name?

    • Yes, that's that term I was looking for trademark. I hope Cheng Yi trademark his stage name!

  • Am I the only one who finds Cheng Yi’s face unattractive? It has always bothered me that his eyes are too close together. Like it ain’t enough that his eyes are too small

      • LOL. They both are unattractive. I'm also pretty puzzled why Swift is so popular. Her music is bland.

      • Cheng Yi's looks is not my type...I prefer slightly more edgy.. but I did enjoy 2 of his dramas thus I dont dislike him.

As for Taylor Swift...I dont know why she is so popular but I was told if I attend one of her live concerts, I will be bought. 🤣🤣 That is not going to happen. I rather pay for BTS...

    • You are not.

I have the same problem with his face, his eyes are way, way too close together and tiny. It's why they edit his photos to move them apart. But can't hide that in raws. Also he's bald.

      • The man has a bald spot the size of a fifty cent coin. I wouldn’t say he is bald. Besides, your bald statement makes it sound like a disfigurement, LOL.

    • You're not alone. I have qualms about his visuals most of the time. It's fine if he takes roles not claimed to be handsome. I just can't take him seriously when his characters are defined to be ethereally beautiful creatures and the most handsome in the world.

    • I think he’s neither unattractive nor attractive in his looks. He definitely needs to depend on angles to get optimal looks. Still, I find that he’s one of the better actors among the traffic and traffic-lite actors so that improves my perception of him.

I hope he wins this fight.

    • Why bring up Taylor Swift here? This is so IRRELEVANT... Her Tickets are selling out fast. Please refrain from dragging other artists to your CHATS!!!

      • Way to provide more evidence how some T Swift fans are unhinged.

People can find her unattractive and it's not going to be the end of the world. I find her to be very pretty but if someone else doesn't, who cares. Breathe, touch grass.

    • If you don't like looking at people with small eyes, maybe don't watch Asian dramas. It's very telling that you can't see that your comment is not only offensive, but pretty much racist.

    • I think he looks really handsome in costume dramas with long hair, but now that you said his eyes are too close together, I will never be able to un-see it now.

    • Everyone has different perception of Beauty.
Me personally I find him the most handsome among all the Chinese actors.
And I've seen more than 130 different most famous C-dramas.
So I know what I'm talking about.
And He's not only handsome but also has amazing personality.
Humble, modest, polite and caring for his colleges on set, treating everyone good and without arrogance even though he's very famous now. He's supporting many charity programs for nature, people, animals. He doesn't just earn a lot of money with his talent and hard work but he gives a lot of love and care to this world. Hope he gets through all these troubles fast and easy.
      Wish him Luck!

  • No wonder we are not hearing much about him. He just ended his contract and trouble have already started. I dont read concrete dirt on him. Just flying rumours...This guy really worked very very hard to get to where he is. I dont want to see his career taking huge setback.

Regardless his name is Cheng Yi or not... I will still watch his drama unless I get bored of the story midway, I will drop it.

    • He sure is working hard. He is currently number one male buyer of water in cent. Congratulations to him.

      • You will be yawning while he tanks completely. The only thing he could get to film in months was a drama by his own agency.

He endorsed sketchers and it was such a disaster that Gong Jun had better results than him.

He is learning rapidly that no matter how much water he buys, how many artists he attacks, in the end, real data will come to light. And his is a disaster.

    • I like him as an actor. When I first saw him in his popular lead drama Love and Redemption, he wasn't visually attractive which shooed me away before deciding to watch it, but his acting eventually won me over. I'll usually check out his work if they seem interesting enough for me.

      • Me too...I am not really a fan of him but I have watched 3 dramas...one is the modern Justice theme drama. I will check out his dramas...May not watch if story does not interest me.

    • Why is that funny? It's normal in business. Who holds the trademark gets to collect the money. You can't just use names that are trademarked. I cannot open a store or a brand and call it Versace.

  • He markets like ZLY, his good friend, he should ask her for help, she broke off contract with tons of agencies easily without any lawsuits following her, I'm sure she can help him a great deal.

  • Well if his old agency trademark his name then hes not likely to win. At the end of the day it depends what clause was in the agreement he signed.
About looks. I dont thk hes that bad looking as some commentators made it to be. Hes surely made a name for himself through acying prowess and not so much on visuals.
Although I didnt watch all his works, he acts better than a lot of C actors.
That bald spot is the price of continuous historical dramas that he filmed. Part of the reason Wu Lei candidly say before. He said he wanted to take a break from historical drama cause he was losing hair.
