Wang Zi Qi and Lu Yu Xiao Cast in Tencent Period C-drama Serendipity Which Starts Filming This Month End of April 2024

I’m glad to see some leads not the usual coterie of C-drama names and these two are definitely on my like radar. Tencent period C-drama Serendipity adapted from the C-novel 榜上佳婿 Bang Shang Jia Shu (literal translation Banner High Good Husband) is slated to kick off filming in the next two weeks with confirmed leads Wang Zi Qi and Lu Yu Xiao. Added bonus of strong second leads Wang Hong Yi and Gong Xue Er. It’s about a rich girl who loses her memory after avoiding the fate of having her entire family murdered and joins the male lead on a journey to the capital for his government exams and also uncovering the mystery of her life. It’s from the director of The Last Immortal and The Untamed with the script by the writer of The Sword and the Brocade and The Princess Weiyoung. Both Wang Zi Yi and Lu Yu Xiao had breakouts last year, respectively with The Love You Give Me and My Journey to You, so let’s see if their headlining this one continues their career elevation.

  1. Interesting staffing! I liked WZQ a lot in The Imperial Coroner but he’s stolid and pretty boring in The Longest Promise. Well, I felt that many supporting actors in TLP seemed tepid about acting in TLP anyway perhaps due to fallout from cyberbully on XZ in the prior year. Similarly for LYX in TLP, blander than tap water. LOL. But I think both have some potential.

The director isn’t the lead director of the Untamed and The Last Immortal was a piece of joke. LOL. As to the writer, The Princess Weiyoung was pretty bad that was one of the dramas making me lose confidence in C costume dramas after watching Princess Agent. It’s a pity the Sword and the Brocade was so slow paced like most C dramas, a waste of a great cast.

    • I like WZQ and Imperial Coroner a lot too, that I wish there is a S2.
But I find him so meh in The Love You Give Me, so I’m back on the fence about him.

  2. Yay! Finally a new project with Lu Yu Xiao in the lead. I have been looking forward to her leading a project after she stole the show in MJTY.

  3. If the director isnt good, then it probably wouldnt bring out the best in the actors. I find WZQ and LYX talented, with potential but needing guidance still.

  4. Wang Ziqi is interesting. I remember being surprised that year by how he played polar opposite characters in Imperial Coroner and that marriage one. Brilliant, gentle leader vs childish, cute CEO. I liked the chemistry. Then last year he was so good and funny with the kid in The Love You Give Me. I notice that he has a lot of details in his acting. His eyes are expressive. Even his eyelid was trembling when he was in the hospital bed at the end.

He has diversity. The police one had a lot of fighting scenes. His latest one with Zhang Yuxi is a bit weird, but it is surprisingly entertaining and romantic.

I like Lu Yu Xiao. She’s cute, girl next door vibe. I saw her in 4 things and she also has range. She has risen up from supporting roles. Seems like she has good chemistry with her co-stars. I am looking forward to this drama together.
