Park Seo Joon in Talks for jTBC Romance Drama Welcome to Gyeongdo

This is a great new drama and casting news out of K-ent. Park Seo Joon is reportedly in talks for a romance K-drama tentatively titled Welcome to Gyeongdo. Nothing is known about the plot yet but the drama will air on jTBC and is also from the PD of King the Land which makes me feel like jTBC wants another lightning in the bottle. Park Seo Joon hasn’t done a romance drama in 6 years not since What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim so this will be highly anticipated from the industry to see if he still has his classic romantic leading man charms.

    • Yup. He has become one of my fave K actors after Itaewon Class. He also set a high standard for ML in romcom like What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim. His comedic moments in that drama were really silly funny but not forced. Compared with another well known actor in a recent hug hit, PSJ’s acting in romcom was more natural IMO. Given good scripts, PSJ can be very versatile.

I don’t like King the Land though. I hope the writer won’t give another boring and predictable story again.

      • I am watching his current variety show- Jinny’s kitchen. This year, they set up in Iceland.

Gosh, I never knew just how expensive it is to live in Iceland. I thought UK was bad enough. Prices of daily necessities and food is just so high….

      • Is that you trying to shade ksh as usual 😂😂 your obsession with him is laughable.

      • @Nicklous When you’re as HOT and at the pinnacle as KSH, even those who haven’t watched past 50% of your latest drama feel the desperate need to comment on every single post of said drama. So much so that literally three months after it ended, they are still so obsessed and bitter over the praises and accolades KSH gets that they feel the visceral need to mention him in completely unrelated posts. It’s hysterical 🤣

But you gotta understand. He is the standard after all.

      • @Nicklous, do you think KSH’s comedic timing less natural compared with PSJ? Otherwise, why did you suggest that? Your obsession with me and stalking me just to insinuate how I’m obsessed with KSH is such a laughing stock! LOL.

I didn’t mention any name on purpose lest any rabid fan would get triggered. Well, rabid fans will be triggered regardless of whether we try our best to avoid fanwar or not. LOL.

      • @Caro, the standard of all contrived comedy? LOL. I’ll just finish your incomplete sentence.

I have no interest in engaging in any frivolous fanwar thanks to certain unwitting rabid fans. We have different preference of comedic interpretation and appreciate different acting chops. I’m a fan of both KSH and PSJ. I like KSH in costume and historical dramas and think that genre is his best strength so far but not so much of his romcom like QoT. As to PSJ, I appreciate him a lot in Itaewon Class and thinks he is fantastically funny in What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim. It’s fair for me to compare actors in different genres. Wrong with that and can’t tolerate my opinion so that you must respond in hostility? Then that’s your problem not mine! LOL. Should all 8+ billion ppl praise KSH in EVERYTHING to the moon so that your adrenaline level won’t be elevated so easily? LOL.

      • Niklous, Caro – If you guys are fans of KSH, dont you feel like that kind of transparent shading is such an ego booster? Like if someone needs to pretend to be a fan just for any ”criticism” to feel remotely legitimate, then that just proves how universal the opposite opinion is, no? Even more so when they are so bewitched to the point that KSH is the first thing that came to their mind in this write up i.e. I see legit no connection. Even the reach of romcom comparison is made up as the drama PSH is considering is a melo? Like honestly KSH stans should take it as the big compliment that it is haha

      • @Macy You are pea-sized brained fanatic who cannot tolerate neutral opinions. Lol! It’s funny how you try to wash away or soften criticism by using cheap psychology.

  1. I missed him, the romcom king. Finally, he’s doing what he does best. He’s just that guy, especially with his two iconic onscreen ships.

    • And he’s Minyoung and Jiwon’s best partner, they’ve had so many partners since but their chemistry with Seojoon remains unmatched. Chemistry was so good he had dating rumours with both, though I lowkey still think him and Minyoung dated. 🙈

  3. I really like PSJ but he’s made some terrible choices post Itaewon Class. On top of that, the writer is such a snoozefest. I’ll remain cautiously optimistic but it’s prob not going to be upbeat the way KTL was. Prob a positive in this case lol.

  4. King the Land was terrible. But I’m trusting PSJ. Even if his last few roles were meh, he’s effortlessly natural in romance.

    • Yeah I just realized I didn’t finish King of The Land. It just seemed like a retread of so many past rom coms. Hopefully there’s a good screenwriter for Park Seo Joon’s upcoming drama or it’s an adaptation of a well written book or webtoon. Chemistry with his leading lady is a must. I’d hate to see him comeback with a drama pairing that’s dead in the water.

  5. I guess it is a trend to make shows with welcome to. Probably small town or village shenanigans which can be fun to watch. Tired of high class romances. The vanity kind I mean. They seem to make more vanity romances that it is getting old. Rich jerk guy and semi vain poor wanna be rich kinds is getting a bit old hand. If it is hoping something original is a stretch but maybe they can do it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

  6. I hope his drama won’t be empty as King The Land… This drama was so bad. I never saw a full episode of PPL before.

  7. PSJ was my favourite actor pre pandemic! Actually he kinda still is but he has not been acting in anything interesting lately. Still when he picks right, personally I feel he is the best actor amongst his age group despite being a late boomer. Unfortunately his career sort of went off the rails after the pandemic. Dream was meh, Marvel… yeah no, he did not have much screen time in Utopia and GyeongSeong Creature can put a crying baby to sleep. If he signs up for this drama, the writer is the Encounter/39 writer. Those dramas have most likely managed to put 50 babies to sleep all at once. At least they are decent rated so maybe he can get a hit under his belt and get his career back on track. Le sigh.

  8. If this drama in village setting I’m glad, I missed Park Seo Joon’s character from Fight my way and want to see someone with similar vibe.
Now I want to know who will be female lead.
Writer can write both female centric and male centric dramas, so their screentime may be equal. And she worked with A-list actresses before, so, if they don’t have mid budget, it wouldn’t be a problem to chose A-list actress for role.
Personally I want Jung So Min as I think they would look very good together.
Someone suggested Moon Chae Won, and this is very good either.

  9. I like his acting but i hope that the drama will be good because even if i like Juhno i couldn’t watch King the lang . The casting of his co star is very important also , visuals aren’t all !

    • Same about Junho. King the Land was a snoozefest for me. I quite after 2-3 eps. PSJ can be versatile given right scripts. Itaewon Class is still his best IMO.

    • Same thoughts.

I dropped King the land after the 2 eps. It was so shiny but empty. And I do not enjoy Yoona’s acting.

  10. This is interesting because just last summer he was saying he wanted to explore projects other than rom-coms. Now he is coming back to the romance genre after his recent drama and films failed.

Not too keen on the writer or the director of King The Land. I found KTL so low effort and cliched I couldn’t get through it. However, it was a big hit and PSJ needs a hit. He hasn’t led a successful film or drama since Itaewon Class and his supposed to be big Hollywood debut in “The Marvels” was a bust.

A few years ago it looked like he was on track to be on par with Kim Soo Hyun but his recent choices (aside from his supporting role in Concrete Utopia) have been very poor. I do think he is a very good actor so hopefully this drama can bring his acting career back on track. Choosing the right female lead will be so crucial too. He needs a talented actress he has intense chemistry with like Kim Ji Won or Park Min Young.
