Love Game in Eastern Fantasy with Yu Shu Xin and Ding Yu Xi Douban Ratings Opens with a High 7.5

Wow, this is such a wild start for xianxia C-drama Love Game in Eastern Fantasy with Yu Shu Xin and Ding Yu Xi. The first Douban ratings are out and it’s a very high 7.5, higher even than the actual rating considering it’s a xianxia drama and the genre usually scores lower than traditional period works. For comparison, Yu Shu Xin’s summer 2022 hit Love Between Devil and Fairy with insanely positive word of mouth and is considering close to an explosive hit for the genre now sits at 8.2 on Douban even two years later, while Ding Yu Xi trying to do the same with Love You Seven Times (same writer as the Devil Fairy novel) fared poorly and the drama has 6.2 on Douban. This is great news for Love Game and can only help the drama more to start off so strong. And for those likely to ask, same day premiered Tang dynasty C-drama The Story of Pearl Girl does not yet have its Douban rating out.

Love Game in Eastern Fantasy with Yu Shu Xin and Ding Yu Xi Douban Ratings Opens with a High 7.5 — 30 Comments

  1. I’m glad it’s doing well.
I started watching it after a huge bunch of people praised so I must say that I’m hooked in totally. I’m loving it too much so far. It does help the fact that so much stuff are stuff I enjoy in other dramas I’ve watched before including one my favorite animes Inu Yasha.
I bought WeTv’s 1 month subscription and the drama’s express package.

  2. Congrats to the cast and crew! Hope they can keep it up. Glad they’re going with 32 episodes instead of the usual 40.

  3. Wow! Congrats to the crew. Been a while since I’ve been addicted to a long show since AJTL. Love how all the main characters get along and there’s no rivalry between them. I’m really happy things are going well for Ding Yuxi. He deserves it!

    • It is reminiscent of the original Chinese Paladin too, with touching stories and fitting OSTs. I’m going to keep an eye on the future works of this drama’s director and producers, they are very good at crafting the scenes.

  4. Aw should I give a shot again? I read good words about the drama. But the genre is really not my thingy and Esther’s voice/visuals….sigh. I like the ML though. He can act.

    • her voice and visuals actually suit the role. And I noticed that she subtly lowers her tone and softens it a bit so it is not as grating but still a little nasally at times but much better. The comedy and heart is so addicting though. Keeps you in anticipation and episodes buzz by so quick that it leaves you wanting more. Not sure if we will get a well executed ending but for now it is so good.

    • How many episodes did you try? I did read a comment somewhere that they thought it was nothing special the first 1-6 episodes but it picked up for them after 7. I liked it from episode 1 though, so maybe don’t trust me 😂. I prefer happier dramas that are low stress most of the time. You seem like grittier and more complex characters so it might just not be for you, which is fine too.

    • Don’t watch if you find the genre frivolous trash and dropped it 10 minutes into the drama. Though I get it that you want to fit in with the majority.

      • Sure CCP stooge @Lilith you never change. You have a fetish to shade and gaslight ppl. I honestly dropped Love Game by the end of the first 10 minutes of ep1 cos virtual space travel looks so stupid. How is my personal experience a problem to you? You responded to fight and vent, not to discuss cos that’s how you fit in the CCP personality and you already knew I despised people with that personality. LOL.

Funny how you know me care about what the majority like!!!! LMAO. I have been watching and loving a lot of dramas that aren’t popular but are up my alley. I’ve been honest I don’t like Esther’s voice neither her visuals and her acting has never impressed me so far. I’ve been always consistent with my own preference. But you’re the one obsessed with XZ nonetheless quick to deny it when ppl mocked you for that LOL. Stop stalking me because I used to point that out and you felt embarrassed.

I watch drama to entertain myself not to cater for other fans’ feelings cos none of you is relevant in my real life. I’m not like you who apparently have disillusion that social media is significant to you and your self identity depends on the acceptance of majority that you latch on to inflate your tiny ego. LMAO. Go get some fresh air! Geezzzz

      • @Somebody Lol what’s wrong with you? You were asking for advice whether you should give this drama another shot, and I’m simply giving you my advice. And what’s XZ got to do with this again? I did say XZ has a special place in my heart, though it’s also true that I don’t consider myself his fan as I like multiple celebrities.

      • Lmao at you saying social media being significant to me and my self identity depending on acceptance of majority. Well, firstly I’m not the one here constantly pretending to be some rich person and bragging about my real life, and secondly I’m also not the one here bouncing my words back and forth about this drama based on other people’s good words.

      • @Lilith, dumbfounding you said I pretended to be rich and bragged about it. When and what did I say to give you that image? LOL. I’m an average American living an ordinary American life. You sounded so delirious here and I’m totally lost in what you’re referring to. LOL.

I don’t mince my words about Love Game. I went ahead try LG the 2nd time but still failed to continue after ep3. That’s about it. I’m not gonna go back to watch again. It doesn’t work for me. Problem for anyone to quit a drama? LOL.

      • @Somebody Oh sure, the average American knows lawyers, doctors, CGI developers, and security companies personally which you have previously claimed to know. /s

Good for you to quit the drama, goes to show my analysis and advice for you is valid.

  5. I’m hoping LGIEF will maintain its high quality till the end, it is a masterpiece-in-making. Other than being funny, there’s also many touching stories, including the side characters. FL and her father, the little bamboo shoot demon, the hocus pocus demon slayer and the pair of water demons. I feel that the ratings for this drama should be higher, at least an 8.

    • I loved the father part. It brought ❤️ to the otherwise ‘playful ‘ drama. I am not a fan of the YXS but have always had a soft corner for DYX since The Romance of Tiger and Rose.

    • IDK, I wouldn’t put this in masterpiece category, but I do enjoy it. I still think LBFAD tops in fantasy, but that’s just me. But yes, hoping it ends strong and not putter near the end.

      • If it’s just fantasy genre in broad, the top imo is still My Date With A Vampire season 2. Despite the outdated CGI, the plot is interwoven with multiple short stories about its side characters that showcase various types of relationships which connect with my heart. I consider this as the final element that differentiate whether a drama will just be another piece of good quality work or a real masterpiece which makes me want to rewatch it again. LGIEF has this element so far, which is why I consider it as a masterpiece-in-making. Yes, let’s hope it ends strong.

  6. Deserved, I like it from ep1, the comedic timing and heartwarming scene in between. Hoping for Happy and satisfying ending for later.

  7. I take back what i said about this drama. Im totally smitten by Esther and Ryan’s chemistry. Still not a fan of this genre but keep watching it for Esther and Ryang Ding.

I used to dislike Esther’s voice but it suits her character in this drama. Ryan Ding, once again proves that he can act well. Better than some popular ones. So happy for him. And he looks sooooo fine, omg.

  8. I’m obsessed with this drama. I’m genuinely enjoying it too much so far. It’s at the top of my list of currently airing dramas. I’m addicted to follow several currently on air dramas at the same time lol. I’m watching other 8 besides this one.

    • How do you have time?! I’m impressed! I think it’d be easier if it’s kdramas because they come out like 2 episodes a week. But cdramas have like 1-2 episodes a day… so watching 9 at once is like… 9-18 episodes a day!

      • Hi! It’s very simple. I do not work neither I study lmao. I do not watch all in one go, I dedicate time for each drama then I watch one episode after another if there is a second (newly released eps) per day.

  9. I’m enjoying a lot this drama, I read the manhua before and it was kinda good but I think the drama is way better and it’s really addictive. Every episode is entertaining and fun to watch, hopefully this success can bring more of this type of stories with the “system” thing in dramas.

  10. I started watching Moonlight which also stars Esther Yu and Ding Yu Xi, even though I’m not in love with Love Game, I like their chemistry. It’s funny, in Moonlight Ding Yu Xi is a fantasy writer and Esther is his editor lol it would have been funny if in Love game Esther was a Editor pointing out all the inconsistencies and bad story lines in these fantasy dramas lol

Still watching Love game, I like the leads, the CGI is pretty good, I like the costumes especially the black and orange on the male lead. There is some mystery with the second male lead, the action is a good mix of wuxia-like spinning around and CGI powers. The demon stories remind me of Journey to the West but no where near as deep. It’s well excuted fluff, I understand it’s popularity but there’s not enough going on for me to really chase the next episode.
