Many Korean Variety and Year End Shows Cancelled in Light of Jeju Airlines Plane Crash Tragedy Today, MBC to Hold Drama Awards But Without Live Broadcast — 12 Comments

    • Bird strikes are so dangerous. The movie “Sully” was made about the pilot who landed his plane in the Hudson after birds took out the engines. Just horrible news.

    • Bird strike was Korean govt’s reason I think because more are now doubting the bird strike being the sole reason or the reason. I don’t get why there is a wall at the end of the run way and the attempt to land was at the middle of the runway. Won’t know the answer until the reports are out. Boeing will be quivering if it was plane issue but I have a feeling it is pilot error, contributing to it.

    • Don’t think it’s just the bird, there’s an absence of landing gear too. RIP to the victims and deepest condolences to their family members.

      • @Lilith, Yes…not just birds, there are other speculations.
Afew days ago, I was reading about a airline getting lots of complaints due to last min flight cancellation as they spot plane technical issues. It is rare for flight cancellations in that efficient Country thus many passengers were annoyed and complained alot.
I was thinking…I rather a flight get cancel even at the last min if there are technicals issues then risk flying it and getting into accidents.

      • @HL I would choose the same too. I’ve encountered small turbulence on several flights before and each time is just as nerve-racking.

    • SKorea has been through many Tragedies, with masses dead:
Sewol, the fairly recent Itaewon Halloween stampede crush resulting in so many Deaths.

2024 has been eventful – including now the Female push back again the country long-standing patriarchal system.

RIP to the victims, and reaching eventual peace (if at all) for their poor waiting families and friends. People had waited for what should jusut be a conventional short air travel return. A nation reeling from this horrific shocking end to 2024.

Having sat at Gimpofor many hours earlier this year, as we missed our Jeju Air flight to Jeju (tickets already secured) – there’re so many flights that go out doing short domestic trips. Jeju Air, Air Busan, T’way, Jin Air etc has a flight almost every hour. When there’s a public holiday (Mar 1 was ours – did not realize it was Korean National Day) … the airports will be packed to the max.

  1. This has been a terrible day for aviation. 3 landing issues in 24 hours is really scary. RIP to those in the flight and I hope they can figure out what happened and potentially put some measures in place to avoid it from happening again if at all possible.

On the awards, latest from this morning is that nothings been decided yet. MBC entertainment awards was definitely cancelled as it was the day of the crash. The drama awards (both KBS and MBC) and music festivals are still up in the air on whether it’s going to be fully cancelled or recorded for future airing.

  2. What a terrible end to the year. I hope the families are able to recover the bodies of their loved ones to lay them to rest as soon as possible. It’ll probably be a long time before we figure out what exactly went wrong.
