Tencent Announces Release of Period Romance Drama Les Belles with Jelly Lin and Fang Yi Lun on February 13th
Darn, what a way to waste a delivered on a platter great airing date. Tencent confirmed the release of period C-drama Les Belles on February 13th, adapted from the novel Zen Di Ta Qian Jiao Bai Mei 怎敌她千娇百媚 or How to Resist Her Thousand Charms and Hundred Flirts. Why they didn’t wait another day to say the drama released on Feb 14th Valentine’s Day is beyond me but does confirm this isn’t a big project Tencent is putting much effort it. Starring Jelly Lin (Lin Yun) and Fang Yi Lun, and I see Lin Bai Rui and Zhao Qing as the second leads as well, this drama should be one of those if it’s good then it will be a small-ish hit and if its bad it will be forgotten into the closest of too many period dramas of this caliber and type. But at least Fang Yi Lun got promoted to male lead level, so yay?!?

Will check this drama just for FYL’s sake. So many costume idol dramas (including short ones) that I’ve got fatigue checking them out. Short dramas have become no brainer NO NO for me to bother cuz the category is full of cringe worthy BS. I ended up feeling life so ludicrously wasteful and hopeless after checking out short dramas every time when there’s nothing much interesting to watch. LOL.
Because Feb 14 is the Western Valentine’s Day and this drama is a period drama, not modern drama. C-ent prefers the Chinese Qixi Festival for their period/historical dramas’ promotions, which kind of makes sense, I guess.
I don’t have high expectations for this drama but I really want FYL to get more love! He’s quite handsome and a decent actor. I was completely enamored by his character in A Journey to Love.
Not really into the French title they chose for this, but I really like Fang Yi Lun!
So enjoying this drama as a light relief alternating with Kill My Sins. Les Belles is so easy to follow with sweet moments. Kill My Sins requires repeat viewings to understand who is who and looking away when it gets too violent. As they are killing off quite a few of the characters as we go along we will probably only end up with the ML and FL at the end or …. maybe nobody.
