Wang Xing Yue the Male Lead for New Period C-drama with Yang Chao Yue
There is a new drama being prepped and it’s from troll producer Yu Zheng who remains hit or miss in terms of producing hits, though to his credit his dramas are always easily watchable. The male lead for the period C-drama adapted from the novel Xing Zhi Wan 行止晚 will be Wang Xing Yue, no surprise as he’s the top dog being pushed by Yu Zheng the last two years, though Xu Kai remains the biggest male lead in the agency by Kai Kai seems to be coasting these days and not as hungry. The surprise for me is hearing that the female lead in discussion is Yang Chao Yue, who for the last year hasn’t been able to het any female lead roles after multiple flopped dramas. But she did had a solid cameo in Yu Zheng’s drama The Double that helped smooth over some of her earlier acting fails so maybe Yu Zheng is a good luck charm with her and casting her will work.
Oh dear…why is it her? She is pretty but she is not ready to take on lead roles. It is best not to push her to lead so early. How is that healthy for her? I dont understand how Chinese pick their leads sometimes. If Yang Chao Yue is really casted, Wang Xing Yue will have to carry the drama on his own…so much stress on him.
After they wonder why the short drama market has been the one garnering loads of money and doing way more benefices than the bigger and more ressourceful one. Well sh.t like this news up here tells a lot…
Nooooo! She’s a very cute actress and is tolerable in short cameo roles but she cannot carry a lead role. All her weaknesses as an actress clearly shows with more screen time. Please pick someone else
I hope her character is suitable for her talents…She looks very cute & pretty like a doll but sometimes some characters just doesnt sit well with Ccelebs and their talents xD esp in costume dramas.
Oitherwise Im interested in this pairing.
Why can’t she take on some shorter second lead roles first? She didn’t impress me in her two-episode cameo in The Double where she hardly had to emote or carry the plot. Considering all the months long stress and grueling work schedule of a full length drama as a lead character, I really have zero faith in her. Why is she getting pushed as the lead so much though? And why does she just get along with it? There’s so much real talent out there never getting a chance and yet someone like her gets endless chances. I wonder how Chinese viewers feel about her getting cast again.
things may change, lets give her chance
I personally feel changes should come in small parts, that is better for her career and skills developing. Chances that come in lead role can affect all involved, the viewers experience and the responsibilities on her will be great too. But having said that.. such decision is not uncommon in Idol dramas.
I hope Yang Chao Yue will be given all the support, acting lessons needed for her new role if she does take it on. C-netizens’ public review can be so scary.
Tbh the change is not gonna be big, she isn’t an acting genius, otherwise she wouldn’t have been that bad before
Why does she continue because she wants to and clearly has the backing to do so and seems it will continue whether others like it or not. That one second female lead from Scent of time got pushed to second lead but this actress started small and thrown into main leads too quick why probably because of her good looks. It sure is tough but that is the reality. Probably like Chen Du Ling they are hoping for that slight improvement to carry her along. Guess we will see.
Can they just release Shadow Detective already. That was the WXY drama I was anticipating even more than The Double. He has amazing chemistry in his photoshoot with Wu Jia Yi for the drama and she was an absolute scene stealer in Arsenal Military Academy. If that drama is going to remain in limbo, I hope they get to work in another drama together. I liked Yang Chao Yue in The Double, but she’s not really on my list of actresses I want to see him paired with right now.
Agree! I would have loved it if they were cast together in this. I have no idea why Yu zheng is keeping wu jiayi in the dungeon and giving her only bit parts, she’s a pretty good actress from what I’ve seen of her work so far.
I don’t like this. I do not like this at all… YuZheng is gonna waste that boy potentials and that pains me to see that
I agree…
WXY has alot of acting potential but I fear that by being in Yu Zheng’s agency, his career will end up going nowhere. I’m not sure if he’s into the idol route that much – yeah he has the looks and whatever for it, but he strikes me as someone that likes to act and is good at it, so I don’t know if the idol route is just an initial thing to bring fans and popularity for him and then he will pivot later or what. But except for Chen Xiao who ultimately left, none of YZ’s proteges have done anything amazing in their careers. And most of them aren’t good actors or have range. WJY and XK seem to just be coasting along, with the latter being pushed left and right at one point. Bai Lu seems to be cast in different things but is a limited actress. Out of the talents he has, WXY has the most, but I feel that as long as he’s with YZ he will constantly be put in mediocre YZ productions (delicious delicacies, scent of time, perfect match and now this) and even the double wasn’t that great, and never break out of the idol mould. YZ would of course be capitalising on him until he finds the next XK/WXY and give that new guy all the roles. I hope he can branch out in time.
That worries me as well. Luckily he’s young enough to make his way to solid male lead terrritory.
It would be great for him to juggle supporting roles in quality TV dramas and films starring with respected veteran actors while still putting out the typical OTT fare. He’s got more presence and command than I’ve seen in much older actors and I think he has a lot of potential to become a really strong actor. I hope his agency sees his potential and don’t try to turn him into yet another traffic star; it would limit him.
Oh boy! This is like putting a product with very bad reviews and consumer complaints back on shelves again. LOL. What is the the producer thinking? Shoddy casting is one of the big reasons why I can’t take Cdrama seriously in general. LOL. There must be structural problems with the entire Chinese showbiz. The Double is just one of very very very few exceptions in the hopeless swamp (borrowing the term from MAGA LOL).
I am sorry, but even Ding Yuxi and that boring drama couldn’t even save her, and she was part of the problem too. I am not WXY’s fan, but omgee, are you really out of actresses to cast with him?…
Oh dear, this dead weight is inflicted on yet another poor actor as his female lead. Neither Jeremy Tsui nor Ding Yuxi managed to make her look good as a lead despite being solid actors and both dramas tanked. Her permanent pouting isn’t acting, it’s just irritating!
One mildly successful cameo doesn’t mean she can take lead roles. At some stage it becomes apparent that no amount of eagerness can make up for lack of talent.
What the hell is the producer thinking? Did her sugardaddy pay much?
His acting is still big mhhhhh… so actress like CY will expose all his weakness especially since he depend a lot on chemistry to do well with dramas , they say this a male centered drama ,for her I didn’t see her in long time so her acting may have improved but I don’t put so much hope on this one.
Yeah it’s gonna be terrible. He depends alot on chemistry yes, and especially more senior FLs leading the show/chemistry. Whenever he has a younger, weaker and less experienced/charismatic FL, his shows dont do well – even the most recent one, perfect match. the only one he stood out in was the double, and even then I didn’t think he had amazing chemistry with WJY, just a nice enough rapport. He does well in intense, theatrical, ambiguously dark roles like Duke Su and his role in one and only, not so much with the others.
