Filming Commences for Period C-drama Que Gu with Hou Ming Hao and Ai Mi
The first stills are out for just started filming period romance and political C-drama Que Gu (雀骨) which the best translation could be Sparrow Bone or Peacock Bone, but the drama will likely get a better English title later on. The drama currently is less being anticipated than being discussed with consternation due to the casting of 17 year old Ai Mi as the female lead opposite totally adult Hou Ming Hao. This is not his fault in anyway but this is the exact same scenario that happened last year with the filming of Princess Agents 2 or Rebirth, with adult male lead Li Yun Rui opposite then 17 year old Huangyang Tian Tian. Both young actresses are beautiful and talented but if they are to be a female lead it could be in age appropriate roles like a high school student in a youth romance and there are plenty of such C-dramas. An additional problematic issue here is that Hou Ming Hao and Ai Mi play husband and wife, a general and the daughter of a powerful official who are forced into an arranged marriage but fall in love after playing the suspicious enemy to lovers song-and-dance routine.

Sigh, hopefully they keep it PG. It feels like the adults around her, including her parents, are just exploiting her. She’s young and has a long road ahead to do these kind of dramas. I don’t see the rush.
I fully agree.
He looks really suits costume and she has a lot of potential. However, i’m not going to watch, it’s like supporting this practice.
I saw comparisons to Crystal Liu being 16 when she acted opposite Jimmy Lin who was 29 in 2003’s Demi Gods & Semi Devils. Even if they wanted an actress younger than Neo Hou, there are a lot of options. Why did they cast Ai Mi? She went straight from child/young roles to female lead and it’s not even a youth drama. Plus, she’s only 17 and technically still in high school while he’s a couple of years from being 30. She looks like she’s styled to look older too. I hope she’s ready to take this on, inside and outside of the drama. Won’t be watching this either.
In those days, there are more exploitation in the industry but these days with internet, people’s voice and opinions are louder and more effective.
I dislike big age gaps romance..
While I find Ai Mi good-looking, I disagree with the comparisons I have read about her being on par with Liu Yifei in Demi Gods and Semi Devils. I can’t see the ethereal beauty in Ai Mi yet.
This makes C-ent collectively appears to be full of perverts LOL (but actually not funny). The Chinese society , specifically those who in power with privilege, is already notorious for being perverted among adult males. Now, they even want to advertise the reputation. lol.
Obviously producers wants to go strong sense of CP/romance when we look at the photo and vids they release… Just why would they go after her so obsessively I dont get it. Maybe sponsors or having a back door opens you doors to having female leads in early age I dont know.
She looks cute but thats it. Just looking at first released stuff she looks like wore her big sister’s wedding dress to get married to a general… Her face just doesnt even fit the profile of the character.
I know actor looks younger than his age but there is a limit to that too.
Sigh I wish entertainment industries can stop partnering underage girls with adult men with a huge age gap. This includes Hollywood, K-ent, and J-ent too.
They can promote this but they will go nuts at the mere mention of a gay character in fiction.😂
Maybe they would have a body double for intimate scenes? Which I doubt so therefore I predict more action and less intimacy due to the fact she is underage. Or awkward implied intimacy but it would be interesting to see how it works out. She has such a pretty but babyish face. She can act but most roles she played were side kick roles and she was cute and feisty in most I remember. All the dramas I saw that had underaged actresses or actors they did not directly show kissing or intimate scenes but intense stares or implied intimacy. So awkward.
Just bad that they cast an underage girl for this type of romance drama. Couldn’t they have other options. I find this morally unacceptable and cringe at the fact that they romanticize this as I can’t get past the fact that she is just a minor. They probably considered her when she was only 16 and that makes it worse. I don’t think I can’t watch this since it will just feed them to think that this is the norm and an acceptable practice.
Yuck yuck yuck absolutely not. There’s zero reason for a child to be paired romantically with an adult. Nope, will not be watching. I hope a lot of people boycott this and c-ent learns its lesson.
