Li Yi Tong and Chen Xing Xu Start Filming Tencent Period C-drama The Noble
I like all that auspicious gold in promos for just started filming C-drama The Noble, but it’s also so literal with the poster designer taking the Chinese title of 金枝 Jin Zhi which means golden branch or golden bough and just illustrating it lol. The Tencent produced C-drama started filming this past week, in that spate of new drama productions that kicked off right after the lunar new year break. This one will star Li Yi Tong and Cheng Xing Xu, both solid if unexciting leads for me, but this drama is giving me the same vibes as The Glory with Chen Du Ling and Xin Yun Lai which was a small budget type family and court intrigue drama that ended up being an unexpected crack-y small hit. I’m now curious enough to look forward to the first filming stills to see what this drama’s visuals look like.

I actually rate Chen Xing Xu highly as an actor. He’s not the usual liulang and has the guts to take on complex characters and delivers on them! This role requires him to shift between 3 identities and has shades of grey. It’s exciting to see him return to a proper historical since Goodbye My Princess was 7? years ago by now. I hope this role is a success for him because his talent really does deserve better scripts and productions
The 1st teaser was already good. I like both actors and director, and I hope it will be doing great in 2027.
Can’t say that I’m excited, but am surely intrigued! Yes, both are solid, and I actually like them as actors (more on Li Yitong than CXX). This is also another reunion of Huang Rong & Yang Kang as the CP (after Barbara & Michael decades ago, LOL).
Chen Xingxu is actually a very strong actor but is criminally underrated. What he really needs are better scripts. Over the past few years, he’s unfortunately been typecast into CEO roles, but interestingly, watching him play those roles back-to-back has only highlighted his versatility for me. Even though the characters come from a similar template, he manages to portray each one so differently that none of them blur together. A role he plays in one drama never reminds me of another character he’s done before.
Anyway, I’m really looking forward to this project especially since it’s been years since Goodbye My Princess. I’d love to see him finally get the chance to fully showcase his acting chops again.
Yup. He was great in The Legend of the Condor Heroes (2017) and Starry Love (2023).
I like both leads, but there’s no drama of them that I particularly liked. For some reason I feel like I should take a break from period C-dramas. I’ve found a few gems in the modern ones, so I’ll focus on them until the K-dramas I’m hoping for are released. After 12 Letters, The Bad Kids, Reborn (2025), my current stop is with The Bond (2021).
I loooove all these dramas but Twelve Letters was too sad for my liking :’) Nice acting tho.
