Chen Zhe Yuan Now the Male Lead in Talks to Join Wang Chu Ran in Period C-drama Tales of the Floating World
The recently aired How Dare You was a nice outing for female lead Wang Chu Ran, got decent results on not too high expectations and generally positive viewer feedback. She’s been unofficially confirmed for the iQiyi period romance Tales of the Floating World for a few weeks now and the original male lead in talks along with her was He Yu. But now the casting rumor mill has it that Chen Zhe Yuan is now the actor offered the role. Both stars have filmed dramas on deck already to keep up their buzz, he has Chasing Dreams with Zhang Jing Yi and Jiang Shan Wei Ping with Wu Jin Yan, while she has Hidden Shadow with Li Hong Yi, A Ming Dynasty Adventure with Xin Yun Lai, and the still waiting to air Love Has Fireworks with Tan Jian Ci, so we’ll be seeing a lot of both of them in the coming year and beyond.

Nice! I like an ML who doesn’t need to rely on taking his shirt off to impress the audience.
He Yu does more than taking his shirt off to impress viewers. For one, he outacted Xin Yunlai in Legend in Shenli and his character there was so far from being eye candy
There are scenes of him shirtless in certain dramas though.
I was thinking more about his obnoxious scowling in his latest drama lol yes he does tend to show his chest a lot but the scowling looks he had done made me feel he was posing for soma photo shoot or advertising for some brand, and how unrealistic a man scowling like that most of the time is… don’t mind me. 🤷🏻♀️😆
@Rero, if it’s in Fated Hearts, I get your point. LOL.
@ shayeli oh I meant He Yu in Speed and Love. However in fated hearts the main couples romance scenes when they kissed and had their first night was a bit much with the spot lights and wind blowing lol. I don’t know it seems they were trying really hard to be sexy when they are already plenty good looking. I laughed at times but fated hearts was a good drama though.
@Rero, Thank you for clarifying that your statement does not refer to CZY as Feng Suege. I was about to ask myself if we both watch tha same drama. LOL. I belive FSG is the best character CZY has ever played in his entire career as an actor. Li Zan in The White Olive Tree is a close second. Although many of Koala’s visitors dislike him, I am one of the few here who likes him amd thinks he’s a good actor with so much potential.
@Rain: I agree with your opinion about Chen Zheyuan’s performance in Fated Hearts. But combining the roles that gave him relevance/popularity with the previous ones, the result is not homogeneous or close to being so. Personally, he’s on my “hit or miss” list. More credibility is needed in his performance for me to leave behind what I have seen of him in almost a decade. LOL. I would say that it is better not to check past works and look from the present forward. But this is also how I have found competent actors.😅
Neither of them have a long record of delivering solid performances, especially Chen Zheyuan with leading roles since 2017.
He never have a big breakthrough for an reason. His favorite hobby is fighting for first-billing with every actress. What’s amazing is that his dramas don’t become sucess lmfaooo
LOL. I only heard about his “fight” with Wu Jin Yan, who certainly has more star power than him.
@shayeli who cares if she has more recognition than him? it only matters to fools obsessed with numbers and not with quality
@and…?
Using your “logic”, the supreme fool is him for wanting to be the one with top-billing. LOL.
“If she has more recognition”. You’re proving me right.😉
He didn’t leave a lasting impression on Hidden Love for me. Instead I really liked him in Fated Hearts. I liked Wang Chu Ran in everything I have seen her in so far, so this pairings works for me.
Chen Zhe Yuan’s CP fans are annoying with their silly and out-of-context edits or comments. From what I’ve seen the most questionable CP fans are related to Hidden Love, Lighter and Princess, When I Fly Towards You and The Untamed. The leads of those dramas are fine promoting their new dramas with their new co-stars and then users are mentioning “Su Zai Zai is better”, “Lan Zhan is the only one Wei Wuxian needs”… This is quite cringe.
Drama communities are just as obnoxious as K-pop ones. Cult vibes. They’ve even spread on Pinterest. LOL.
This is the same Wang churan who got hated for a few absurd reasons back then. I thought she wont survive the hatred from a certain popular actor’s fandom and the drama viewers but she did it. How come people blamed her for a flopped drama when it was a teamwork.
Glad that now she’s getting more recognition for her acting. She’s now a Dior BA without 3 months probation.
Chen Zhe Yuan is one of a few actors who didnt need to take his shirt off. But his agency tends to fight for billing orders. Sigh.
no one knows what happens to the emotions of others in private but this young woman at least in the public eye, looked resilient. i was pleased to hear the good reception of her performance in Are You the One. i hope she continues to give good performances in decent dramas at least. Wang Chu Ran is pretty and if she develop all that potential, what a wonderful combo it would be.
Interesting pairing and felt refreshing! Although I’ve never finished one single drama of WCR LOL, I did recognize her effortless acting in some scenes, specifically her comedic timing. She’s got potential. CZY did not leave everlasting impression on me in Hidden Love either LOL, as someone mentioned above. But I enjoyed Fated Heart very much after getting bored of a long drought of C costume dramas. Per his various works that I did not even finish mostly thanks to lame stories as usual, I do see in him a versatile actor who has ability to interpret different personalities. I root for him to be even better and mature. His leading ladies also had certain impacts on his performances too.
Last year’s C-dramas that I was able to finish were Fated Hearts, Legend of Zang Hai, Reborn, Twelve Letters, Glory, and Coroner’s Diary. I still have to check out more than 2025 after a long with K-dramas. Maybe I’ll find more titles that work for me.
a long time*
Oops, I forgot LoZH and Coroner’s Diary. But I always watched through the end of my fav’s dramas regardless, LoZH included. lol. As to Coroner’s Diary, I skipped scenes and fast forwarded sometimes. I didn’t appreciate CD that much as FH.
