Li Yun Rui and Liu Xie Ning Bring the Visuals and Chemistry for Upcoming Youku Politics and Romance Period C-drama Sea of No Return — 9 Comments

  1. The trailer definitely piques my interest too. My only complaint is the color palette. Just like other overused elements in C-dramas—like “blossom,” “love,” or “cloud” in English title, it now seems like every FL in a historical idol drama must wear red! LMAO. Can they please be more creative?

Personally, I don’t think LYR has top-tier visuals. However, he is the ONE popular idol drama male lead who brings the most convincing and intriguing aura to a warrior role. Perhaps Ci Sha is on par with him. But not gonna lie, his physical prowess combined with that innocent, scholarly look creates a fantastic onscreen contradiction. I just love seeing him in armor or on a horse more than any other actor right now. He completely sells those images. Lol.

    • Agree on the Ci Sha and physical prowess-innocent contradiction description. Must be all that special training they got from Creation of the Gods (>.<)

      • Also agree on CS and LYR. LYR is also pretty athletic in general. He’s really good at all the physical games in variety shows. It seems he’s really into basketball and goes to the gym a lot. I also recall hearing that Creation of the Gods had some tough training!

      • Oh what is Creation of Gods? Were they in that movie before? I had no idea. That makes sense to me then after I googled the film.

  2. Everything can now make to look grand with CGI and more so with AI. Aesthetics wise c-drama has levelled up but story(telling) and execution still come short, sadly. I get excited with each new drama that drops but find myself not finishing any.

  3. The trailer feels like a music video. I have to admit they do use red a lot but if I’m not mistaken the color has symbolism. Just can’t recall what that is specifically. It is always utilized for marriage, revenge and palace plot lines. Especially the makeup. The men are almost always wearing black though or dreary colors. It’s just something I have gotten used to seeing. Anyways seems like it could be interesting what with all the action scenes included in the trailer.

  4. I’m not sold on Liu Xiening. Her expressions are so blank in this trailer and also in the one drama I’ve watched her in, Perfect Match. She is cast in a lot of future dramas so her resources are A+ but she doesn’t seem like a great actress. Hope she proves me wrong because I like some of the IPs she will act in.
