New Posters and Preview for C-drama A Dream Within a Dream with Li Yi Tong and Liu Yu Ning Deliver the Meta with the Melodrama

So this genre has been done before but when done right can be so much fun. It’s the do-over genre or the meta story-within-a-story genre whereby one or even both leads know the outcome but want to change it. A Dream Within a Dream with Li Yi Tong and Liu Yu Ning just released new drama posters and the first official trailer and I am super hyped up now for it. Li Yi Tong has that heroine-in-the-know spark and this feels like the third Liu Yu Ning take on the dark/angry/brutish male lead type after The Story of Pearl Girl and The Prisoner of Beauty.

  1. I thought Liu Yiu Ning is overexposed but surprisingly the trailer looks captivating. I like the suspense over cringy yandere romances.

Li Yi Tong looks really pretty, an oddball navigating the dramatic scenes. Overall I like the upbeat storyline, the catchy plot and fast paced flow. Looking forward to an action packed and intrigue driven slow romance show.

    • LYN Overexposed? As an actor, I don’t think he is. I only see him here on KP and she usually posts rumours instead of real news of him. He is pretty famous so he appears in every casting rumour of any Big drama to create huge amounts of hype and hate towards him at the same time. I went to check his MDL’s page and he does not seem to do too much as an actor.
I do think him as a singer is too much oversaturated. He appears in every BIG drama’s OST. I’m really sick of his singing voice. He sounds too much annoying for me as a singer.

      • You are lucky that he started to focus more on acting this year. His ost has reduced a lot this year. Last year was crazy

  2. This seems so quirky. Makes me curious but every time they portray these stories it usually ends with it was all a dream and that is what takes the pizzazz out of the story that could be great and fun. Or they show them meeting in the real world for a split second bleh but no genuine conclusion. For once I wish the ending would be left in the fantasy with a definite finish and no vagueness.

      • I’ll watch it but still hope deep inside that it will execute beautifully but you know for a long while now I have yet to recollect a Chinese drama with a solid ending that leaves you satisfied.

    • I also hate the whole “it was just a dream” type of endings because I feel like I was cheated. I watched a whole journey for it to mean nothing. What was even the point?!

  4. The trailer makes it look like a lot of fun. What won me over are the mini-plushies representing the main characters, I suppose, on the blackboard.

  5. Is this the one with the idiotic scene where they stab each other and then twirl? I don’t understand who can watch such trash but tones h their own I suppose.

  6. I would not usually be interested in a drama with these two actors but have to admit the gorgeous posters and that fun trailer have me interested in watching

  7. The problem with this kind of shows is that we wither get the “it was all a dream” (hence, meaningless) end, or they go the videogame way and then I personally wonder how is it even healthy to show the FL fall for an NPC character. So I will keep my doubts but will check this out whenever it airs (I think they wrapped pretty lately).

  8. She really suits this kind of outfit and makeup. LYM seems to have 3 very similar roles and all 3 have yet to air. This one looks pretty good in stills (tasteful artistic poster) and in motion (intrique by the trailer).

  9. Ok the trailer looks good. I wasn’t planning in watching but will now wait for it and yeah it’s intriguing. Different from the normal revenge drama.

  10. I dont really like this genre or type of drama where script is known to characters OR time travel/change of events happens all the time … Its quite tiring and fails for me when script writer ruins after a while.
BUT this one has both my faves as leads even has my faves as secondary castings so I gotta watch it when its up.

  11. I’m not excited about the drama after watching the trailer out of curiosity. The trailer shows tidbits of plot that aren’t anything new nor creative among tons of similar Chinese web novels (mass produced so to speak). I used to read a lot of these kinds of novels in Chinese and was fascinated in the beginning because of beautiful traditional Chinese language tapped from rich antient literature. But storylines became repetitive and predictable without creative ideas or concepts. No depth to put in another way! Specifically, for this type of fantasy drama, if not smartly adapted from the original and well executed as the Double, the story would be very messy and cheesy by just abusing a lot of nonsensical tropes. Besides, uninteresting ML and FL don’t help. LOL.
