I love Jung So Min dearly, for her down-to-earth nature and innate acting talent, but I often wonder if she burst onto the K-ent scene too fast and too early. Now that Kim Nam Gil is out of the army, looking back at the last three years that seemed to have flown by, I realized that her biggest roles and … Continue reading →
In the musical chairs game of K-drama casting, the pool is so deep that rarely do onscreen couplings get to work together again. It’s also not common to have two sets of onscreen couples switching OTPs for subsequent dramas. The A-listers age out of leading men roles or grow too big for dramas and head for the movies exclusively, and … Continue reading →
I’m sure Ethan Ruan is getting this comment left and right, but I’m going to have to join the chorus. Just put a ring on her, dude! Since finishing his military service earlier this year, Ethan has been relatively busy with his entertainment career, leaving his long-time agency Catwalk and starting his own with director-actor Doze Niu. He filmed a … Continue reading →
This C-drama will probably be stupider than a sack of potatoes, but heck if I’m not going to check it out just for Yoon Si Yoon. Before he did Flower Boy Next Door early this year, Yoon Si Yoon spent a good chunk of last year in China filming a modern C-drama called Happy Noodle with C-actress Li Fei Er. … Continue reading →
I had my doubts about the so-called global edition of We Got Married, which felt like a desperate ratings grab for an aging Korean variety show to tap into a wider market after the domestic audience may be bored with it. But the casting of 2PM‘s Taecyeon with his lunky good nature and Gui Gui (Wu Ying Jie) with her … Continue reading →
Okay, this is much better than I expected. Or maybe since my expectation was somewhere below rock bottom (yes, that is possible when dealing with the maestro toad of crazy that is producer Yu Zheng’s oeuvre), something that looks simple and lovely actually has the ability to instill hope back in me for the upcoming drama adaptation of Tong Hua’s … Continue reading →
Episode 14 of King Flower might be called The Episode Where Da Hua Finally Gets a Clue. Or it could be called The Episode Where Terry Gets Naked and Da Hua Unwittingly Paws Him. Or really this episode ought to be called The Episode Where King Flower Might Actually Get Back on Track. There are no signs that the writer … Continue reading →
With two episodes of Gu Family Book, it left me wanting to throw things at the screen by the end. Conversely with two episodes of Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love, I wanted to give this drama a hug for doing the rare deed of actually exceeding all expectations and doing so in a refreshing way. It’s so well-made, not in … Continue reading →
Is there anything presently annoying me that a glimpse of smiling Lee Seung Gi doesn’t immediately make it all go away? I’m hard pressed to find it, because all my gripes about the shoddy characterization with the parental section of Gu Family Book got washed away the moment I laid eyes on the new batch of official stills from the drama. … Continue reading →
I might have to rename my blog Angry Koala’s Playground if I can’t stem the periodic outbreak of online douchiness. As many of you have noted, in recent months there have been times when accessing the website you’ll get a malware warning from Chrome or similar types of notifications on other web browsers. This is true only online, it will … Continue reading →
I have to admit I’m starting to get iffy on the upcoming revenge drama Shark. I know I was super excited about it last month when I reported that Kim Nam Gil and Son Ye Jin were in talks to headline the final drama in the Revenge Trilogy from the famed production team behind Resurrection (Rebirth) and Mawang (The Devil). … Continue reading →
The first two episodes of Gu Family Book is a textbook example of the tail wagging the dog. The writer picked an end point and then wrote towards it, as opposed to writing a journey where the ending organically happened. The writer needed the parents of Kang Chi, the mountain spirit Gu Wol Ryung and the down-on-her-luck former nobleman turned … Continue reading →
A few months ago Lee Jun Ki told his fans that he would definitely be doing a drama this year, which was exactly the perfect morsel of news I needed to perk up since his sageuk Arang and the Magistrate didn’t own my heart or mind last year. I remained patient even as all these K-dramas got cast, wondering which … Continue reading →
