This is the most random dating gossip ever whether it’s true or false. K-ent got a dose of hot gossip coming from C-ent this week, with the Chinese media reporting that top Korean star Kim Soo Hyun was planning an April wedding to former Wonder Girls singer turned actress Sohee. The fact that they are not even dating, at least … Continue reading →
If the happens then I’m totally onboard, and will be yet another coup cast for famed screenwriter Kim Eun Sook. At this point she’s basically unmatched in her ability to deliver hit after drama hit, with even You From Another Star‘s Park Ji Eun unable to match her YFAS success with subsequent dramas Producer and Legend of the Blue Sea. … Continue reading →
I’ve not watched a weekend K-drama in quite some months but upcoming KBS 50-episode weekend drama Father is Strange is luring me back with its quirky siren song. Veterans Kim Young Chul and Kim Hae Sook are the parents of a family with four grown kids who must deal with the arrival of Lee Joon’s former idol actor claiming to … Continue reading →
I can’t put my finger on the moment Park Hae Jin‘s career broke the barriers of Korean entertainment and went Hallyu, but he’s squarely in the realm of many A-listers that are suprisingly well known overseas. I’d say that last year’s controversial hit drama Cheese in the Trap didn’t hurt him in the least, it made his fans super upset … Continue reading →
I’m way more fascinated by the fashion, mostly lack thereof, parade at the VIP movie premiere for the thriller movie Fabricated City than I am in the actual movie. Starring Ji Chang Wook and Shim Eun Kyung, the movie is a cross between wrongfully accused of murder Defendant and Healer‘s computer hacking and chase thrills. The trailer looks sleek enough … Continue reading →
It’s a good time for Lee Dong Wook to capitalize on his buzzy turn as the Grim Reaper/Emo Goryeo King in recently concluded fantasy drama Goblin. Neither him nor male lead Gong Yoo has had a super popular hit drama like this in years, and actually in the case of Lee Dong Wook one would have to go back a … Continue reading →
It’s impossible to dispute numbers and on this one the might of the Chinese government and reach of its economy has spoken. Five months after the Chinese government placed a Hallyu ban, basically a hex on Korean idols and dramas making money in Mainland China, the fallout can now be definitely measured by the precipitous fall in stock prices of … Continue reading →
More character posters are out for the highly anticipated summer Japanese movie live-action adaptation of popular shonen manga Gintama (Silver Soul). The first set of movie posters released last month were of the three main characters – Oguri Shun as the silver haired samurai Sataka Gintoki, Suda Masaki as his colleague Shimura Shinpachi, and Hashimoto Kanna as the red haired … Continue reading →
Seo Kang Joon‘s acting career really has been impressive in how many dramas he gets cast in. I like him most in supporting roles like his noticeable minor character in The Suspicious Housekeeper or the scene-stealing second male lead in Cheese in the Trap. Less gratifying are when he gets shoved into the lead like his first sageuk Hwajung, and … Continue reading →
It’s was pretty startling to see how high actress Kim Yoo Jung’s star rose late last year thanks to the runaway success of Moonlight Drawn by Clouds, and then how quickly it plummet in a fiery blaze due to what netizens perceived as rude behavior during movie promotions. She ended up skipping all the year end awards and even was … Continue reading →
Script reading commenced last week upcoming MBC Wed-Thurs drama Radiant Office (Glowing Office), the drama by newbie screenwriter Jung Ho Hyun that won a MBC script writing competition. The most memorable competition winning drama script to be made into a hit drama in recent years remains KBS drama Secret (Secret Love), though having bailed midway through I can’t opine as … Continue reading →
As if there was simply too many years since anyone did a version of Hana Yori Dango (Boys Before Flowers), there’s now a musical adaptation hitting the Seoul stage this month. Running from February 24th through May 7th, the musical Boys Before Flowers takes from the Japanese version of the musical and changes the lyrics to Korean. It will be … Continue reading →
What distressing news to hear, but thankfully it’s being handled swiftly and all is well. Actress Moon Geun Young has fallen ill on the set of her stage production of Romeo and Juliet, with the upcoming performances cancelled after she was taken to the hospital and required surgery for a condition called compartment syndrome. It’s a painful and dangerous condition … Continue reading →
