To say career boost feels less accurate than returning her career to the very promising state it was in before her big stumble last summer. I’m talking about C-actress Wang Chu Ran who was one of the up-and-comers among the current slate of Flowers but last summer 2023 her mega high profile C-drama Fireworks of the Heart turned into a one-two punch of bad reviews and a scandal with her off screen personality. She smartly laid low for a year, filming her projects and doing her fashion circuit and then came her summer 2024 C-drama Are You the One (柳舟记 Liu Zhou Ji). The drama has been finished airing for over two months now and sits at a comfortable 7.7 on Douban (after opening at an insanely high 8.0). Industry insiders say the drama did only mid in ratings/view/return on investment but the viewer feedback was especially strong and positive for her character and performance so she’s gotten the career return to a promising level she worked hard for. It also made production companies more interested in her for the strong woman role and to also pick projects with co-leads where both leads are smart/savvy/equally matched like in Are You the One. Yes, make more dramas like this please!
